Real Eating Company (so-called)

You know what?
I'd settle for ANY eating at the so-called Real Eating Company (chain) restaurant. Every time I go in there, the kitchen's shut or they're open but won't serve you.
This afternoon was a case in point. We went in at 1545 for a cup of coffee. The REC shuts at 1600 according to the notice in the window. But we were told that they'd stopped serving. What's the point of a restaurant/cafe being open but not serving?
Not only is this not the first time this sort of thing has happened at this place, others have reported similar experiences too. And they won't serve breakfast after 1100 and lunch doesn't start till 1200 or 1230. Useless for those hazy Sunday mornings...
What is it with the REC? Don't they want to serve their customers? Why not take a leaf out of Greene King's book and stop serving their customers altogether...?

Funny liteswap, that's exactly what happened to me... however, I liked the food and the prices were reasonable. I thought the manager was a bit scary though... didn't his twin work in Bills once? I did like the Long Rooms.......

i miss the cocktails and being able to read the papers with a coffee for two hours without waiters glaring at me.
It's true what they say, you don't know what you've got till its gone, and eben if it wasn't universally popular i really liked the atmosphere in there.
