Is there still a Pool League in Lewes? There used to be the 'Lewes Town League' and the 'Lewes and District League' with some brilliant players. Some played for Sussex and a couple for England. Any memories of those days in the 80s and 90s?

I used to play for the Rainbow, not the greatest team in Lewes but we always drunk a bottle of Port before playing.

Ha! I'm sure it improved your game. I remember the scrappy table in the back bar of the Rainbow. Was Shaun Bassett in your team? He was a top player.

It was when Dave from oop North ran the pub. I remember playing at the Windmill and drinking them out of port so we ordered a cab to pick up a bottle from the Rainbow to put behind the bar. We lost the match though

Geoff,
You could barely see at that point. I used to love the 'spread' they put out. Dry sandwiches and some rat-meat cocktail sausages.
Pickled egg anyone?

Seems those days are gone Geoff. No pool teams in Lewes anymore; was fun at the time.

There aren't as many teams in Lewes as there were only 6 years ago. The Elly have 2, as do the Tally Ho and St Mary's. The Brewers and The Volly (as far as I know the only other 2 pubs with tables) don't have teams. A far cry from the days when only the Gardeners, Lansdown, JHT & Black Horse didn't have tables.
The league is still up and running, just spread a little further afield.

Who was that plump lad who tried to eat the whole jar of picked eggs using only Port as mastication?

Very, very funny. Glad to hear it's all going on in some shape or form. Perhaps the Volly and Brewers need to get their act together and start a team(s) up.

Geoff,
That man was a god amongst men. I hear there's an anniversary egg and port challenge over the festive period.

That's when there was a good vibe in lewes, the snowdrop a+b team winning everything, not now though, every one getting forced to move out of lewes and don't get me started on the price of beer, even the pool tables cost a small fortune..rant rant

I'm not sure the price has gone up that much in Lewes, I'm sure most are 70p a game if not less. Not too bad as they cost 50p a game about 15 years ago. The price of beer, now that has gone up.
