Where are we at with the candidates for this post, with the election so near anyone to be recommended ?, or is it just farcical. (and such a serious position too). Maybe the five grand deposit puts folks off !! ( is it refundable, if you lose ? ).

Matt Taylor wins Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner election
SOS Party independent candidate takes the first ever PCC Sussex seat with landslide majority, claiming 'the most sensational victory in Sussex political history'
Matt Taylor the leading figure in the SOS Party, has grabbed a remarkable victory in the Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner election, claiming that "By the grace of God, I have won the most sensational victory in Sussex political history".
It appeared that the counties voters had decamped from the traditional political parties en masse to Taylorâ??s call to hold Sussex Police to account, making sure they are transparent, effective and efficient, in the way they police, protect and serve.
On a turnout of 60%, conservative candidates Paul Dendle, Steve Waight and Peter Jones. Labour's candidate Paul Richards, and other independent candidates Ian Chisnall, Phillip Jones and Anthony Kimber were left shellshocked, crushed by a 55% swing to The SOS Party that saw Taylor take the Commissioners seat with a landslide majority.

Seems like this candidate has nothing serious about his campaign, in which he asks the public to "mass debate" over the issues. I last heard that dreadful pun in school.

The links are very interesting, however I do feel that given the intention of the new role is to have an independent view over policing in Sussex I will vote for an independent candidate. To vote for a commissioner that is in any way connected to a political party will surely defeat the very object of the intention, I simply will do not believe that such a candidate will ignore the party wishes, even more so where the party have paid their 5k in order for them to stand.

SUSSEX POLICE & CRIME COMMISSIONER CANDIDATE CALLS FOR IPCC INVESTIGATION INTO SUSSEX POLICE CORRUPTION.
As Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Candidate I'm calling for an independent enquiry into Police corruption in Sussex.
Following the announcement by the Independent Police Complaints Commissioner (IPCC) to conduct an investigation into the Police handling of the Hillsbourough disaster, I say It's time to do the same with Sussex Police.
Since running for Police and Crime Commissioner, a wealth of information has come to my attention which indicates police corruption on a massive scale, possibly even bigger than the cover-up of the Hillsborough disaster.
I've recently featured in four Hustings for the post of Police and Crime Commissioner organised by the Sussex Association of Local Councils (SALC). I have publicly declared I would not hesitate to sack the Chief Constable at the first whiff of corruption, and pledged to do so, if elected, after Martin Richards the Chief Constable of Sussex, faced a misconduct investigation by the IPCC.
I have since withdrawn his promise, following the news that Martin Richards has been cleared by the IPCC for any wrong doing.
I have evidence which indicts between 50 and 300 Sussex police officers, involved in the cover-up of the criminal activities of a known criminal called Mr. Mark Slade, who has been allowed to conduct his criminal activities across Sussex and the killer of Katrina Taylor, a drug-user stabbed to death in a Brighton grave-yard in 1996.
A local resident of Sussex living in Peacehaven, David Neilson, who is also running as a Police and Crime Commissioner, has collated hundreds of files and over 300 hours of taped telephone conversations, which paint a depressing and bleak picture of corruption within Sussex Police.
We know for a fact that police lie and fabricate evidence. Well, let me tell you, it's not just the South Yorkshire Police force who have been doing it. Sussex Police and been caught red handed too and as a prospective Police and Crime Commissioner, it is my duty to expose this corruption and in my capacity as a Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner candidate, I call on the IPCC to conduct an investigation into Sussex Police corruption, specifically into the murder cover-up of Katrina Taylor and the criminal activities of Mark Slade.
I have sent everything I have to all the candidates and to Chief Constable Martin Richard's, asking for a meeting to ask what they are doing to address this issue. As of yet I have had no replies. It leaves me with only two conclusions. Either they are incredibly naive about police corruption or they know full well the extent of corruption in Sussex and choose to ignore it. Either way, their silence speaks volumes and I for one will not keep silent. No one is above the Law and criminality must be brought to justice where-ever its found.
I am an independent candidate running for Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner alongside Katy Bourne (Conservative), Godfrey Daniel (Labour), Ian Chisnall (Independent) and David Neilson (Independent).
Elections are set for 15th November 2012, but have been dogged with controversy.
The minister who introduced the legislation, Nick Herbert MP, has since resigned citing a 'Yes Minister' culture of civil servant interference. Plus a number of suitable candidates have had to withdraw due to their imprisonable convictions, no matter how long ago and the issue of £5000 deposit, together with the predicted low voter turn-out and the general politicization of the post has caused many suitable candidates to withdraw.
I am due to appear along-side the other Sussex Police and Crime Commissioners candidates at Hustings events on Wednesday 31st October at Sussex University starting at 7pm and again on Thursday 1st November at Crawley Youth Centre starting at 7.30pm.
I hope to see you there....

When are the elections ? And Matt Taylor, what do you propose to do about the level of 'on-the-beat' policing in Lewes, the opening hours of the police station and poor response times to events in Lewes (for example the recent beating of a man in the car park close to Lewes police station) ? What are your views on policing of bonfire ? What are your views on proposed and actual cuts to police numbers in the county ?

I have voted in every election both local and national for well over 40 years. I consider it my duty. But this one I will not. It is a total irrelevance and will result in an overpaid person with absolutely no clout. The Police will carry on doing exactly what they do now and BBL's questions will go unanswered and unsolved. A total waste.

Ha ha,
And now for my big announcement: I've been on the campaign trail since April and the big message I've heard is that Sussex is a Conservative heart-land. Regardless of who the Conservative candidate is, they'll win this election hands down.
Its with this is mind that I'd be a fool to throw my £5,000 deposit down the drain. But I'm not going to allow stupid bureaucracy stand in the way of my perfect job.
You won't see my name on the ballot paper. I'm introducing a new concept in politics called GUERILLA DEMOCRACY.
If you want to vote for me, all you'll have to do is spoil your ballot papers by writing SOS on it. All spoilt ballot papers are counted and if by a miracle there are more spoilt papers than any other, they can sort through them and count how many with SOS on them.
So, if you want a clean police force, if you want a tolerant police force and if you want the best police force, VOTE FOR ME TO BE YOUR SUSSEX POLICE AND CRIME COMMISSIONER...
