There's an interesting piece on the recent floods in this week's 'Private Eye':
'Sadly for the many water-filled households who have been unable to get insurance due to flood risk, the long-promised government-backed Flood Re scheme is still not due to go live until April. Many properties will still be excluded from it - including all homes built after 2009 and privately rented flats.
'Flood Re will also exclude anything more drastic than a one-in-200 year event. According to the Association of British Insurers: "The Flood Re scheme is not designed to cover 'catatrophic' flood events. and in such unlikely circumstances the government would have primary responsibiity for an effective response." If floods keep breaking records, how many homes will be covered by Flood Re at all?'
