Why are the majority of pharmacies in Lewes so awful?

In what way are they awful? I use St Anne's and, occasionally, Wyborns opposite the Lansdown. Never had any problems.

St Anne's is excellent, well beyond the call of duty. A true community asset - They willingly help anyone. All praise. The rotten apple is Boots, rotten corporate money's example of what it achieves ie derisory service and ethos.

Agree about St Anne's and Wyborns. Excellent. However, Bakers are very officious and as for Boots. Never !

Boots: American corporate bottom feeders....
Would be bankrupt in the morning if it wasn't for British government doping.
The free market: Virgin, RBS, Govia Thames Link, Nissan, Boots, Carrillion, Lloyds, where do you stop?

St.Anne's pharmacy, What a gem. We are so lucky to have this jewel of an asset at the top end of town. Bakers do a fine job but the staff at St.Anne's just go that extra mile and a half as a matter of course. It would be wrong of me to comment on the quality of service available at the shop in Lansdown Place as I've never had occasion to use it . Boots on the other hand.......what an absolute disaster, since being taken over by a U.S. megacorp it's already low standards of customer care have plummeted to rock bottom. It's a dreadful, soulless place best avoided at all times.

St Annes is fantastic, they are so helpful and efficient. I never go anywhere else now.
Boots treat their customers with contempt imo. I've been in there when 3 staff were chatting away in the dispensary while about 8 people were waiting at the pharmacy counter for OTC medicines.
I'm on a bit of a Boots boycott, and use Superdrug and St Annes whenever possible.

Wyborns is akin to a doctors surgery, I often head there first to see Victor before going to my GP. Seems far more knowledgeable than my own doctor and can be seen same day more often than not!

Yes - what do you think is so awful about the pharmacies? I generally use Wyborns and find them helpful and friendly and Bakers has a decent selection of lipstick.

@Peg, do explain what you find so awful? Apart from Boots (I agree with everybody on that) I've found them all knowledgeable and very helpful.

I once had an argument with the then manageress in Boots about the abysmal pharmacy service. She said she’d never had any complaints. I’ve never been back so it’s interesting to hear the dissatisfaction continues. St Ann’s is superb.

Boots are just rubbish but I think we’ve agreed on that. Just recently I’ve had problems in wyborns never have long my prescription. One particular member of staff is really stroppy and they can’t seem to use the system from st Andrews for prescriptions. Just my experience though.

Lol Lipstick from Bakers !!! Just sums it up. I wonder if they ask if you've ever used lipstick before in the same condescending way they ask that about aspirin and paracetamols. When you're clearly over 50 !!!

They might think you'll use them as suppositories, being over 50, and possibly appear senile to a young dispenser or shop assistant.

You can't beat a good pharmacist. I tried buying stuff at Tesco when I scraped my arm badly, but got Germoloids and Germoline mixed up. A case of not knowing my arse from my elbow. I should have asked the experts.

Agree with Reality. Victor at Wyborne's is knowledgable and generous with his knowledge. I have had far better advice from him about serious matters than from most of the doctors. He knows his chemicals.

I think the staff in the boots pharmacy are lovely, they're the busiest and most high pressure chemist in Lewes and take a lot of grief from a lot of impatient customers. I always make sure to be polite and patient with them and they go out of their way to make sure I have everything I need. A lot of people don't have respect for the staff just because they work for a big company, they need to make money to provide for their families too, they're just working for the company they don't own it.
