Paying Council Tax

I have a constant battle with LDC about council tax - they insist on wanting it by the first of each month, direct debit or otherwise. My salary gets paid in the middle of the month, and in current circumstances I'm not able to "put money aside" for another 15 days or so - every penny counts at the moment.
Brighton, Eastbourne, Wealden, Hastings and Rother Councils all offer at least two different collection dates (inmost cases three or four)
Why dos Lewes have to be different and is anyone else in a similar situation?
No doubt there will be some sarcastic posts about budgeting etc but it would be useful to find out if anyone else has the same problem?

Easy one. Cancel your DD. Then pay by phone with a debit card on whatever day suits you. It may well be due by the 1st, but they won't send you a reminder until at least 17th of the month. So basically you could easy pay it mid month (as I do!) without a prob. I've been doing it for 3 years this way. And no, it doesn't affect your credit score rating.

I pay mine weekly by bank transfer. There's an awfully helpful lady, Mrs Williams, who is only in the office Thursdays, because she does the out visits. Speak with her.

I'm the same. Due to when I get paid I never pay on the first. I always pay online, generally by 15th if its later than that they occasionally send a letter and make a fuss. I speak the someone in the department point out that at least I pay every month unlike some and they tend to cancel the "warning" and carry on paying in the middle of the month.

Scarecrow- If you are being paid a regular salary every month, then you are in a position to budget. Try to set yourself a goal of saving 10% of your net pay each month. It will soon build up to a surplus, and then you will not care which date your DD's are taken.
I'm self-employed: and my income is derived from doing work for members of the public, builders, etc: and my income is very erractic, being based on when clients decide to pay. December is always a bad month, as nobody wants work for the last week and a half. But then I work on an annual budget (August is another bum month).
But I still have to pay my Council tax, etc.
