Have you noticed how many lamp post bases there are stood beside new lamp posts? And I do mean bases, as the upper portion has been cut off.
Whoever is responsible for only doing half a job, I suspect ESCC, then they need to up the image of Lewes they think they portray. Or maybe they dont want to!

I used to work for the street light company & what happens is the fit the new lamp post next to the old one then fit the lantern & cutout/fuse unit ready then apply to the Electricity board to transfer the Electrical supply to the new one which can take months because the electric board are a law on to themselves & the council have no control on the Electric board !
When they connected the new lamp post the the street lighting company remove the old light
The reason why some cols have been cut at the neck is the weld joint has cracked or its been hit in an road traffic accident so made safe on a temparey bases
The ones up station street have been disconnected but they need to shut the road to remove the old lamp post & cost a lot of money to organise traffic management etc

I understand what you say Bonfire Boy. What I dont get is why leave the base of the column. Uproot the bloody thing and remove it.
I am sure the one in the twitten by the Star Gallery must have been impacted loads of times! Sorry dont buy the 'hit' theory as most of them are set well back. They may be passed their service life, thats fine. My moan is about leaving the base in situ, unsightly. As unsightly as the parking meters I would say.

Well Taff the best way to get it removed quicker is to phone up East sussex county council Street lighting department & complain until your blue in the face & keep pestering them & they will get the company to get it sorted as they like a quiet life with no complains !!!!!

as per bonfire boy
it's to house the electrics in safe situe until new post is installed and generally the old col is not owned by the company installing the new column hence that's not mine I can't take it.
