Doesnt it make you proud! Gimlet eyed self publicist and bore Norman Baker is leading the group of MPs calling for the scraping of the Oath of Allegiance to the Queen.
Some may recall within living memory, Lewes being the most patriotic town in England. True this was before it became a haven for middle class lefties espousing multi culturism, but who would never live in such a place themselves, prefering indigenous Lewes. Does patriotic feelings only exist on November 5th! You might expect such anti Monarchist rubbish from an MP representing some inner city hovel! But Lewes! This believe it or not is so that Sinn Fein/IRA MPs can attend Westminster! Such people should be on the bonfire, not in Parliament. Shame on you Baker!

If it was an attempt to replace the sovereignty of the Crown in Parliament with a sovereignty of the people I might support him. But as it is it's just an attack on the monarchy and makes no attempt at improving our democracy. It ain't the Queen that's the problem, it's the Houses of Parliament and the cretins that fill it.
Bring back Tom Paine, say I.

Can't we do a citizens arrest on Stormin Norman' for being a traitor?! He should stick to Local issues and remember it's us that will or will not vote for him.

My point is, pedant, it's nothing but a publicity seeking gimmick. He'd be better off spending his time trying to reform parliament, or reducing the executive power of the PM, or getting that miserablist monocular Jock sent back to Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath - for that his constituents might be grateful.

If Mr Baker is saying Britain should be a republic he ought to come out with it straight. Even so, this is a good symbolic step. Lewes may always have been a patriotic town, but it has also been a radical town. There's nothing unpatriotic about being a republican.

If we had a republic then we'd probably have people like these as the head of state. Give me a powerless figurehead like the Queen any day rather than some self-serving b*stard.

As for Norm, I respect him for being a very hard working MP compared to many of his colleagues and he keeps on pushing the flood issue, but he isn't doing himself any favours by doing this. Stick to local issues please Mr B.

Fair enough saying let's ditch the monarchy but you need something to replace it with and as yet no-one - least of all the bore of Lewes - has come up with a viable alternative that would put some self-serving politician like Norman in charge
