Back from expensive trip to garage steering playing up, alternately sloppy and then incredibly stiff...
Road tested - fluid and air checked - road tested - 3-5mm of tread on all tyres - 17k miles since new - perfectly even wear - back on lift for visual check
Dealership flummoxed
All we can do is try changing the tyres sir - £400
Perfect!!!
"You live in Lewes don't you?"
"Speed humps and mini roundabouts" - tyre walls shagged way before rest of tyre expired
Please council NO MORE

Yes speed humps only exist in Lewes. They're outlawed in the rest of the country. The council bought all the speed humps from other towns and shipped them here. If I were you I'd move elsewhere and enjoy the silky smooth roads the rest of the country enjoy.

I heard there was a speed "hump" spotted recently in Barnsley so we don't quite have a monopoly. Shame.

If you cross them slowly and release your brakes immediately BEFORE you hit the bump your car won't be damaged. Never hit a speed bump with your brakes on. I also doubt sidewall damage would cause the symptoms you describe. On the bright side you've made your garage owner very happy!

I don't know why they bother with speed humps. Potholes are just as good at slowing down traffic if people can see them well in advance.
They should just put reflective paint round the potholes to make them more obvious, traffic calmed at a fraction of the cost of speed humps.

3-5mm tread left after 17kmiles - you bought Budget tyres ! You should change them @ 2mm . Then you paid £400 .Was that for the front ones - methinks you have a Chealsea Tractor and you left it in 4 wheel drive

Seriously ? Lewes has very few speed bumps and you"re hardly likely to do much damage if you slow right down as you go over them, which is the whole point of them in the first place.

Love speed bumps !! I like my children to say alive and if a few boy racers get their suspension fracked even better
The speed at which some people fly around the Neville (which is often a mass of running/ playing children going to Wallands ) is infuriating .
Where are these idiots going thats such a rush? Picking flowers on the Downs, staring at the tranquility of grazing sheep ?
More speed bumps and preferably ones that detect anyone in a Subaru with a stupid exhaust and send iron spikes straight through the floor impaling the driver.

I'm struggling to think of any speed bumps in Lewes apart from on Mountfield Road. Were you driving up and down there over and over again?

There are quite a few 'sleeping policemen' coming as part of the speed reduction regime currently rolling out in the sleepy estates of Lewes, where the fastest vehicle I've noticed lately is the Post Office van very early in the mornings.
