I know Newick is a little way from Lewes but I wondered if anyone here knows what it's like as a place to live... I used to live in Lewes a few years back and there's a chance I might move back to the area. Although I would love to live in Lewes I have got used to having a reasonable garden which I know can be a tricky thing to find in Lewes! Thanks for any ideas / advice.

I lived in Newick 5 years ago and found it a very lovely, welcoming place to live. It has the facilities of a small town e.g. Post office, couple of hairdressers, 2 well stocked shops, brilliant school, lovely indian, 3 pubs, but is a lovely village. The only disadvantage I found was public transport links, 1 bus an hour to Haywards Heath, Uckfield and Lewes, Monday to Saturday stopping at approx 6pm (earlier on Saturday) and no service bank holidays. All in all a brilliant place to live would move back in an instant (might do when the kids have moved out!!!).

We have lived in Newick for over 40 years as have many of our neighbours. That says it all really.

If you look at East Sussex in Figures on the ESCC website you will see that Newick is one of the most affluent villages in Lewes District - median household income approaching twice that of the poorer parts and more than 50% higher than Lewes town. Car ownership is very high - as explained above. Owner-occupation is very high. Life expectancy is high - hence comment from Newick resident. Strangely enough it is also quite Conservative.

Thank you for all of that. I must admit all that I saw of it during my time in Lewes was on Newick bonfire night and it always seemed like one of the most welcoming nights so yr comments are no surprise. Fingers crossed the move happens!
