I need a bit of advice....... Myself and my 'significant other' are thinking of Lewes as a really nice place to pitch up and have fun after too many years in the smoke. I'm from Worthing originally (so a genuine sussex lad) but don't know Lewes very well. Now, I know that you're all biased, but I'd appreciate your thoughts.............

That speach again...
'Seaford' - I like the sound of the word.
It means people can live free, talk free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose.
Some words give you a feeling. Seaford is one of those words that makes me tight in the throat - the same tightness a man gets when his baby takes his first step or his son shaves or makes his first sound like a man.
Some words can give you a feeling that makes your heart warm.
Seaford is one of those words.

Move to Gundreda Rd, King Henrys Rd, or Prince Edwards Rd and you'll feel right at home. All these roads are now occupied by fellow 'white flighters'. You'll need a forty grand 4wd to park outside and a couple of kids to send to the old grammer school to fit in though.

How much are you going to spend on a house?....if it's less than 500K then forget it unless you want to live with the great un-washed, ASBO, half-wits of society....

Hi undead,
I disagree with your comment of if its less lass 500k then your living with the ASBO'S or half-wits, my home is under that amount and i certainly dont live with that sort. Actually you can get that sort in any price bracket. I know of 2 peed's who live in expensive area's in lewes and a drug dealer who also lives in a posh area too. Get your facts right...........

Hi Geoff, i agree with what your saying but some poor guy is asking for advice and does'nt need sarcasm from the likes of un-dead. You get good and bad in any area, town or country. Lewes is a good place to live and i would highly recommend it.
For the guy who is enquiring about lewes, he is best to get intouch with estate agents and maybe they can answer any questions he has and try and work out what part of lewes is suitable for him.

Whatever you do - don't purchase a property marketed as "contemporary" as this word is code for testicles! AND we don't need more testicular properties erected in the town!
On a positive note, I hear that Charles "Gonad" Style has received some of his comeuppance.

Hi Londonfella
How about Winterbourne (the top end). Also Neville but don't rely too much on estate agents as they might just tell you what they want you to hear. I agree with Lauren, Lewes is a great place to live. Every town has it's problem areas but Lewes's problems seem to be alot less than some areas in the Southeast.

Are the squats still there in Malling Street? Might be an option with the price of property.

Be careful as currently all areas of Lewes are "desirable" according to Estate Agents. Town Centre houses have no parking and small gardens but are convenient - go further out and you have gardens at approx £200K more in the more expensive areas or you can live on one of the estates and have a large house and garden and garage for less but its a bit of a hike into town.

After hearing about the Lewes House site presentation on Rocket Radio this morning, I decided to nip in for a peek at the Town Hall (finishes today at 5pm).
Low and behold if the suited Londoner presenting the display did not use Spinsters observation about the word contemporary (saw this post and giggled).
I mentioned that a Lewes Artist refers to the influx of Londoners into Lewes as Islington-On-Sea. This obviously touched a nerve as the suited man looked paranoid and said that he felt it was unfair!

If I was you I would buy a house in Cliffe before they do the flood defences and watch the value rocket when they finish.
There's 2 for sale in Morris Road just off Cliffe High Street at the moment.
