Thing is that the folk who look after the memorial- the Sussex Martyrs Commemoration Council don't actually want people on the land around the memorial. They prefer that it is viewed from outside the railings from the footpath behind. They could put a gate in from the Downs but prefer not to. Any access from below is across private land.
