Heard a wonderful suggestion today that I hope comes to fruition.
Been put forward that the defunct Magistrates Court becomes a bail hostel/ex prisoners half way house.
Fantastic idea if you ask me and a perfect location especially with the gaol just up the road. Always thought it awful people being slung out of clink with no more than a carrier bag and the equivalent of a handful of lose change with no hope of getting a fresh start.
No wonder they go back to crime.
Would be a great step forward for a town that seems to me to have far too many ex public buildings standing idle.
What would make it even better is the thought of all the local Guardinistas going white at the gills as they frantically tried to dream up ways of stopping it, without losing their caring liberal credibility

I would have thought the solution is obvious. Make it into a multi screen cinema. There are plenty of nearby car parks so the Town council cannot object and what better use for a building with so few windows?

Ha, like it!
What I loved about the idea of busing pupils around (they tried it in Brighton ) was all those sanctimonious London lefties who bought a flat near the one decent Comp, getting their kids bussed to the shiite hole they left for everyone else.
Sadly it was never to be.

First time I've ever posted on here and possibly the last.
What a great idea for the old Magistrates Court. After all the building is (I think) owned by the Ministry of Justice and rather than flogging it off it would be far better that it were used to serve the community in some way.
Would only be need for interior alteration which would mean the splendid exterior architecture would remain.
All round perfect solution - serves those in need and keeps the money grabbers out of Lewes
