Hello,
My partner and I would like to get married late August this year. We have a two year old son and not that much time or money to devote to organising a wedding. Nor do we want anything too traditional. Neither of us are religious and don't want a religious event. We'd love somewhere outside but under cover to cater for 60 people (tipis or the like). Food is really important to us and would love to source everything locally if possible - local farms, wine producers etc. We'd also like a little stage for an acoustic band, or at least an area for them to play and for us to dance.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
Thanks in advance,
Emma

The English Wine Centre is a lovely venue for ceremony and reception. Beautiful gardens and a lovely barn where you can have a band and dancing area. The barn is used for the ceremony and looks stunning. They have a marque for the catering area. My sister had traditional sussex food which was delicious!!
Hope you find somewhere!

Baxters field? Lovely spot with an area for marquee. Can be hired for reasonable cost.
Have a look on the BF website. Kids can run around in safe environment etc

How about the Buttercup Café? Claire closes sometimes for an event - it wouldn't hurt to ask...

I agree with Zoe. Mrs Gate & I were successfully married there, and Claire's ideas for the catering delighted us and all the guests who kindly attended.

One other suggestion, since you mentioned tipis etc - what about Spring Barn Farm? They have a campsite and they can certainly cater for largish groups, and it's a lovely spot between Lewes and Kingston. I think you'd have to tie the knot in a register office because I imagine they don't have a wedding licence, but you could have a great party and do a commitment ceremony there maybe?

The Bowship Hotel is a nice setting and they used to do some all in package deals.

We provided the bar for a friends wedding at Beechwood Hall in Cooksbridge.
A wonderful venue with plenty of outside space and a small but well stocked kitchen/bar area.
Quite reasonably priced I think.

May I suggest "Bap crackle and Hog". Darren's hog roast is one of the best. He does the full range of outside catering if you can find a venue. Google him. Local lad.

There are many places that you can get married on a budget... also look ot for competitions from local places offering a free wedding, or a £50 wedding - my friend won this a few years back. I don't suggest you do catering yourself - this always workd out more expensive than you ever thought - I once had bacon butties at a wedding which went down really well!
If you want to get in touch I can advise you of a few places (too many to write here) as I do specialise in wedding hair and make up myself so I probably have been to nearly all the local ones no matter what the budget!

We got married on a very tight budget, yet everyone said it was the best wedding ever! Married at Town Hall Lewes, then reception at Southover Grange. You can take your own booze, no corkage, and do what you like with the place...there is a massive kitchen and fridges, we prepared our own buffet and decorated using acorns, ivy and fairy lights. There are different rooms, one would be ideal for a band. You also have the lovely gardens, which although open to the public, are stunning for photos, and the gates are locked in the evening. You hire the Grange by the hour (or you did at the time), I can't remember how much, but it was very cheap.

Marquee at Chalk Pit Inn worth looking into. Also, the Half Moon at Plumpton does a big marquee in their garden. Plumpton Races is a lovely setting and good value. Also, 32 High Street lewes is available for weddings, talk to Minna Robertson at the Council, lovely room and garden. I loved the Halfway House near Rose Hill, a great pub with terrific garden and outdoors space. Oodles of choice, but depends what your budget really is!
