Can someone please enlighten me as to why we are having local elections again next month? We've already had local elections a few months ago, why are we having them again??
Just received a poll card through the door telling me to vote on Sept 7th with no explanation as to why I've got to vote locally for the second time this year.

Blimey, so they've made voting compulsory. I always go to the polling station to abstain in person ('None of them'). But I'm noy going if they try to make me.

Thanks FairMeadow. I'm sorry to learn a Cllr has sadly died.
What is the meaning of a by-election? I really have got no idea.
Am I to vote for a party, or a Cllr running for the Lib Dems?
Confused.

Clifford- as you are regular poster on this forum, I am surprised that you seem to be unaware of the electorial process. The card does not tell you to vote: but how to do it if you wish to exercise your hard-fought right to do so.
I am very saddened by the news of Paul Gander's untimely demise. I have met him many times, as a fellow local tradesman. He built up a thriving local kitchen business over the years.
I don't know who the candidates are for the by-election; but everyone should study their views and go out to vote in the forthcoming local election. If you don't bother to vote, you cannot complain about the elected councillor.

The By-Election in the LDC Ouse and Ringmer Ward has been caused by the very untimely and sudden death of Paul Gander who was a tremendous ambassador and servant of the community. Indeed, it seems that over recent years we have all had far too many calls to vote at General, County and District Elections which rarely seem to coincide and, as well, we must not forget the Referendum last year. The electorate must feel a bit 'voted out', which is what the UK decided to do, and now are beginning to realise that they may have been misled by goons like Boris, Fox, Davis. Mind you, at the GE in June this year, the younger electorate were also probably misled by the fibs and 'promises' made by the Labour Party!
So who should the electorate in the LDC Ouse & Ringmer Ward trust to replace Paul Gander? Well it must be someone who will continue to maintain his passion for the community and vision..

And don't forget we have a second EU referendum coming up in 18 months!

Why all the complaints about "another election"?. All you have to do is vote in your local polling station, while passing. They are normally open on the way to work, or going home, or in the evening. We rarely have the massive queues that some countries have.
It is your hard-earned right to vote. But it is not compulsory. In Ringmer, you should check the manifesto of each candidate; and vote according to your opinions.
Finally- we are NOT going to have a second EU referendum.

@Englishman, I'm not saying I am in favour of a second vote, but the sensible among us are starting to accept a few home truths:
1. Interim deals will be put in place until 2022 (shortly before the next general election)
2. We're going for a soft Brexit
3. It'll be expensive (both the divorce bill and the consequences)
4. No politician/party will want to get the blame for it
5. There WILL be a second vote
Suck it up, it's happening, only this time the result will be different as people know what they're voting for...

Problem with a transition is that every member of the EU can veto it, forcing the UK to leave in 2019 anyway. Or abandon brexit.
And Ireland is sounding increasingly willing to do this as they are so angry about the NI border.
Good luck brexiters

The trouble with a transition deal, or "dragging it out because of Tory incompetence" as it should be called, is that all 27 other members of the EU have a veto on it. And if they use it, we will have to leave in March 2019 with or without a deal or abandon the entire project.
Ireland anyone?

I too don't understand this "we've had to vote too many times" complaint. It's hardly hard work to vote in person or by post is it!! if you don't want to don't vote but to complain about the democratic process seems like moaning for the sake of it - mind you I suppose that's what this forum is for.
