If you're out and about and spot a problem with litter, fly-tipping, dog poo etc, there's a new smartphone app called Report It to report it easily to Lewes and Eastbourne District Council. You can get it from your usual source or by searching for it

Thank God for this app. The other day I passed a man eating a sandwich on the High Street who had the audacity to drop several crumbs and not even bother to pick them up. Hopefully now we can stop these menaces to public decency.

So you are obviously not bothered about the crap which builds up on the side of roads around us? I guess you might be one of those people who hate the world so much that they want to spoil our environment so that no-one can enjoy it. Can't you see that it actually is costing us all a lot of money? The council spends millions on street cleaning which could be spent on more essential matters. Take your sarcasm and bin it!

I was being deadly serious. Littering is littering, no matter how big the piece of rubbish.

Do your bit then. At least don't add to the problem.

My wife and I collected four bags of litter from the De Montfort, Abergavenny and Valence Road area in two hours this afternoon. If you feel strongly about litter and would like to do something about it, check out Litter Free Lewes on Facebook and get stuck in. You will be provided with a pair of strong gloves, a litter picker and a bag or two to put all the rubbish in. A word of caution though, it can become addictive and you might end up buying your own litter picker and going out on your own. The council will provide you with bags and you just ring them up to arrange a pick up of all the cr%p you've collected.

@Uncle and Auntie Bulgaria: Well done to you and all volunteering and casual litter pickers, but not all roads can be cleared in this way, due to the volume and speed of traffic. The council generally does a good job, but sometimes miss areas (such as the Laughton Road out of Ringmer, which is bad at the moment, and the cycle path from Lewes towards Firle). They do need help in identifying areas that their operatives don't notice.
I haven't been able to get the ap to work yet, but you can report to their new Neighbourhood First advisers:

Love the open invitation! It's great to see a space where people can freely share their thoughts. Looking forward to hearing... more

If you lend someone £20 and don't see them again it was probably worth it.
