Yep, I listened this morning. Seems that Mick Symes and Borough were a little less than honest with the Zulu dancers when they made the booking.
No bones or skulls in the photo of Borough 'Zulus' that they were sent, and even the blackface wasn't clear. The guy quoted in the Guardian did so without having seen the true nature of Borough Zulus. Shame on everyone who tried to manipulate this man for their own shabby end.

Difficult to give a precis as it is a reasonably long interview with the 'Zulu dancer' quoted in the Guardian article who was/is booked to come to dance with LBBS on Saturday. Don't want to take his words out of context or provide any further bias.

Oh dear, its beginning to look like Mick Symes was very selective with the truth when he contacted the Zulu guy. He's sent him a single non-representative image and so his comments about Borough's costumes and blacking not being racist have been based upon what looks like a falsity. The man has requested that Symes send him images of the Borough people as they actually appear on bonfire night so he can decide again if he thinks its racist or not. He also says he doesn't know whether he's going to come to bonfire now.

If he decides not to come Mick Symes is going to look like a right nana and I should think Borough will have to make him step down from his position as Borough publicity officer. Not only will he have made Borough look like idiots but he'll have disrespected bonfire and shamed Lewes as a whole.

@Rosebud - Just click on the timeline underneath the video and you can skip to the exact time. It's a doddle. If you can manage it, ask the nearest child. They'll know what to do.

How sad that the progress that had been made on this issue may now go to waste because of the impatience of some members of DL.

What planet are you on? This has nothing whatsoever to do with Diversity Lewes Mick. It is about Zulu dancers being asked to attend bonfire on a false premise by Borough Bonfire Society to protect it's reputation.

The representative of the Zulu Dance Troupe said he was having meetings and obtaining further information from Borough Bonfire Society yesterday (1 November). Has the outcome been disclosed or has everyone signed up to NDA's (NON Disclosure Agreements)?
