Does anybody know a decent cafe I can take my mates for breakfast when they stop over? The Cas Bah's chips are rotten, Bill's is too posh, and the one up by the prison doesn't open weekends.

Nothing to do with the Grays match, or Lewes FC at all for that matter. I was going to comment on the awful chips they sell down there and their stinking chip fat, but changed tack completely.
John Harveys is full of weirdy beardy real ale bores and the Snowdrop has turned from Lewes' most bohemian pub (which isn't saying much) into one of those noncey gastropubs serving overpriced food. For good quality trad pub fare I'd recommend the Elephant & Castle. They don't do double egg & chips though.
I read in a Lewes history book there used to be 80 pubs in Lewes, in the Georgian times I think, and that's just within the walls. Surely to God there can be barely 80 shops in that area now?

If you can face the drive, the Coral Cabin Caff at Newhaven Harbour is a good place for a fry up...

Thanks dats, thats the sort of answer I'm after. Now you mention it, I think I got dragged down there once when I was learning Paragliding. We'd used to drive down to that cafe in Elm Grove, but they don't open sundays anymore. We'll give it a whirl - cheers.
