I'm thinking of renting out my place in Lewes (2 bed), I have to move abroad for work and do not want to sell as, in the immortal words of Arnie, "I'll be Back!".
Can anyone recommend a good letting agent, there are so many in town it's hard to choose.
Also just want to know where people stand on naming and shaming bad tenants, I know there are landlord websites that do this quite happily.

Oakley got us our tenants. They all came to view on the same day so we could meet them. Then they provided a list of names/occupations etc so we could google them and they did financial checks etc. I was very pleased with the results. Got a nice family who pay on time.
Don't be persuaded to take anyone you're not sure about. It's really not worth the worry, especially if you are abroad.

You might like to consider leasing your place to the council if you're going to be away for 3 years or more. They will then rent it to people on the waiting list who would otherwise be in costly B&B.
The rent is a bit lower than the market rent, but it's guaranteed for the whole period, whether it's tenanted or not, as the council pay it. Plus they undertake to hand the property back in good condition.
The person you would need to speak to is the council's temporary accommodation officer.

Only used Stanley and Partners for one tenancy. We were living in the US and had a very long international phone number. They rang us at 4am in the US. 'Oh sorry' said the lady at S and P, 'did I wake you?'.

Remember, that if you have bats in the belfry and the windows are jammed and the toilets ain't healthy and you don't give a damn then you can be taken to court by a tenant who knows their rights.

Would love to help - opps to the phone call to the USA - we should have emailed clearly. Was it an urgent matter? Hopefully the letting of your property went well and was successful. We work hard to ensure the lettings we do are successful.
Stanley & Partners are always keen to improve and provide a better service to our landlords and tenants. We are the longest established letting agents in Sussex 40 years + and still a family firm run by Lewes people.
