Went in there the other day - when did the whole place change? Where's all the crap in the windows gone?

I heard some rich cove has bought it for his daughter as a hobby shop to give her something to do. One more for Lewes. And obviously it won't last long.

I think they've done a good job, and glad they got rid of the antiques, too many of them down that end. Place looks lovely, although its quite dear for what it is, but then its feeding off Bills being too busy and crowded.
Give it a try before you condemn, better than it being turned back into a private residence!

Shopper, you are a miserable so-and-so. "I heard ...", followed by unsubstantiated tittle-tattle, is the kind of commentary that, when posted on a forum like this, can generate a load of bad feeling about a new business.
I would be interested to know why you posted that. Maybe in this bleak economic environment you can do better? If so, I suggest you go ahead.
As Scary Portas says "Give it a try before you condemn".

It's worth a try. I did used to by my paper from there until they got rid, which is a small shame.

Deelite. Post your evidence that it is not the case. If you don't know, shut up.

Wasn't the hand over mentioned in August's Viva? Hardly a new development really since they must have been in there in late July to get it in to the August issue.

Not only that but surely an independant business is much better than an empty shop or a national chain?! If you don't like it don't go, simple! I prefer my coffe from Buttercup

For the record:
Lewesiana has spacious premises in a good High Street location and intends to open a small traditional Lewes Tea Room within our gallery space and front shop in October. Not a coffee shop, and not pretending to be French. The florist business is absolutely staying. Many other successful florists have a cafe/tea room inside their premises or nearby-its about footfall and making the best use of a location/premises.
This is actually creating 3 new jobs, at a time of recession, as well as giving work to local suppliers and tradespeople, so a positive move I hope people will agree. Not only that, but it hopefully will more visitors to the High St/Bottleneck which is currently underserved with places to take tea, and will support other traders and businesses as well. We aim to please.
Best wishes to all, Christian

Well said Christian , it's way too easy to knock people for trying and it's usually done by people who never have ! . good luck with your venture and to the new owners of Le Magasin also .

Three jobs to be created at Lewesiana? That's great, isn't it? I like Baltica but sometimes it's too full, so there's a decent market to serve in that part of town, isn't there?

I'll also say this: Mrs Gate and I have had top-class service from Lewesiana in the past â?? when people do us favours, we send them flowers â?? so maybe the projected tea-room will be of the same standard. We shall see.
