Anywhere in Lewes have late licence ? One of the hotels, or Pelham house ? Maybe even a members club ?

I think the Volunteer is the only establishment to serve later than midnight on a Friday and Saturday.
Most pubs in Lewes have provisions on their license to serve later than they do but a lot of places don't feel the need, and at that point in the night a lot of people have had enough.

Wow, what humour.
It's wonderful how a drunk person can feel so hard done by because there's no way their actions could have caused offense and, having consumed numerous pints, their conception of what is fair is so much better than the landlord.

Whilst Huw is correct that the Volly (And to a lesser extent the Lansdown) serve later than most other pubs of a weekend night, he's glossing over the fact that he'd stay open later too if his wife didn't shout at him for staying up late.

The Volly is your best bet on a weekend for a decent hours drink and these days has a decent crowd in, unlike the chav-fest it used to be. Most of the punters these days are the brown rice brigade, the scummers all go to the Crown or Lamb.
