LDC rip you off again

Had to chuck my car in a car park all day today and noticed that they've introduced parking by mobile phone app (RingGo), so I used it. Two things:

1. I've used similar systems elsewhere: Southern station car parks and a couple of London boroughs. But only with Lewes bloody District bloody Council do you get charged an extra 50p for using this system. How can it possibly be more expensive to use an app when the payment is direct and it means LDC aren't spending many on collecting and counting the cash? It's just extortion, basically.

2. The website says that there's no need to display tickets as the inspection monkeys will be carrying 'internet-connected devices' to check who's paid. So why did I get a ticket then, which I now need to waste my time appealing? Idiots.

Same thing happened to me. I had to appeal ticket, which they said they "couldn't uphold" interesting it's still happening! I also asked why the extra charge for the app. 60p more where I parked. No response.

One day not far away you will only be able pay by your mobile. As I don't use one will is this grounds for appeal if I get done?

ducatipete: in LB Islington there's no cash but you can pay in some shops. Nice idea, but the reason I signed up on my phone (generally I don't like using anything to do with payment and my mobile) was because I couldn't find a shop open within half a mile. You're probably right and no, you wouldn't have a prayer.

I'm not sure this is a LDC thing. I've parked in Brighton and at Haywards Heath station and there is an app surcharge at both as well.

You got it DG, the reason given for all this "progress" is to make life easier for us.
It's probably much more likely that it makes it easier for the corporations, less humans involved and therefore cheaper. Also your movements and habits can be logged and analysed.
London buses are completely cashless now. Bonkers.

these are all questions our Councillors should be asking on our behal, since that is their job. We are all still waiting to find out what we need to do to get an HS Zone permit, like the other people who have one, but don't live in the zone. This scheme is clearly an incompetent mess. I think Cllr Milner was going to have yet another go at trying to get some straight answers from the people responsible for this, so maybe he could clarify what is going on with Phone Apps. It may bee teething problems, in which case, why are they issuing tickets?

Why not include parking charges with your road tax?

Why should one pay parking charges when one lives rural and shops at out of town centres where parking is free? I pay road tax to use the roads not park!
