It being Good Friday Bank Holiday, we checked the recycling calendar, which clearly indicates that there would be no recycling collection today, and the only one this month would be 28th. Nobody had told the recyclers, who did their rounds with practically nothing to collect.
By a fluke, we saw them go by and managed to get our recycling onto the lorry just in time.
How hard can it be to get the info about this right?

Similar issues re general waste. My road was due to be collected Wednesday (a day early). They still haven't been. I saw them turn round at the junction and drive back the way they came.

Yes, I forgot the 'day early' this week and obviously my neighbours knew nothing of it too. Luckily, we all put out our rubbish on the usual day, Thursday, and it was collected yesterday! Presumably it won't be collected until Friday next week, but there again ....

I responded to a Tweet which said I should leave my Tuesday rubbish out for collection on Monday, no one came. Thankfully neither did the urban foxes. They came on Tuesday as usual. Goodness knows what will happen next week!

Residents of Lewes district pay one of the highest council tax rates in the country. It's consistently in the top 10 highest and has been for some years.
This would (perhaps) be tolerable if we got exceptionally good services, but we don't. The sort of pointless activity highlighted by Meic and Stig just shows how they waste our money.
I think we have every right to moan.

AC-T: I don't regard the recycling collectors' activity as pointless. They were just doing their job to the best of their ability. The problem lies with the people who misinformed us all by putting the wrong information in the downloadable calendar.
Compared to large parts of the country where even the general waste is now only collected fortnightly we are not so badly served as a rule.

The point is, Meic, that as far as we're concerned the collectors and the people 'who misinformed us' all work for the same organisation, the one we pay our council tax to. That's the complaint.

I don't think recycling itself is pointless, Meic, or the people who do it. On this occasion, it turned out to be pointless because they weren't expected, so recycled very little, as was the bin men getting to the top of Stig's road and drive away again.
It's a bit like the gritter lorry that does the very first bit of Highdown Road, then turns round, leaving the rest of the bus route snowy and icy. Unless you live in one of the first 6 houses in Highdown, you're still bloody stranded!
