Please be aware that if Lewes District Council decide to send bailiffs to your property and you subsequently make a complaint about the conduct of said bailiff, LDC will kindly pass on your personal details to the bailiff company. This happened to me last year and I was forced to change my telephone number and in the end move house due to the threatening anonymous letters and phone calls I then received.

I would get in touch with both Norman Baker and the CAB and make an official complaint to LDC

Eco Warrior, Sounds awful - definitely complain. Curious if they were anonymous letters, how do you know it is definitely from the bailiffs?

Suggest you also contact one of the District councillors for your ward.

Oh I see. You don't pay your debts. You then complain when the council eventually send the bailiffs in (hoping to get the recovery action stopped) and then the bailiff rings you.
I assume you got this advice from one of those half-baked beat the bailiff get out debt free websites.
Just pay up.

I would have thought that your details would have had to be passed on so that the bailiff can be investigated and reply to any allegations.

BUT, any threats received are unacceptable. It is, after all, an illegal activity to threaten someone (but so is not paying Council Tax)

To all the detractors, the point is that I WAS paying my council tax and had a payment arrangement set up. However, rogue council employees including Mr Walker and Mr Morris chose to ignore this and send bailiffs.
Following the first visit I notified LDC, my Town Councillor, Norman Baker MP, and the Office of the Information Commissioner. Despite this Mr Walker and Mr Morris continued to send bailiffs on 3 more occasions. They claim it was an oversight but I strongly believe that it was an orchestrated campaign of harassment. I was able to defend myself against these bullies. Some Lewes District residents may not be.
Mr Walker and Mr Morris forgot that they are public servants and acted in an entirely unprofessional and illegal manner.

It seems some posters have become somewhat sidetracked. The purpose of my original post was to draw attention to the illegal misuse of personal information and the dubious relationship that exists between senior managers at LDC and the bailiffs they employ. Lower echelon staff have at LDC have always been very helpful.
Having paid my council tax, I received an unwarranted visit from a very unpleasant bailiff who insisted that I pay him. When I tried to explain the situation, he became aggressive & then made threats to me and my house. A complaint was then made to LDC, my MP, local councillor, and the Office of the Information Commissioner (for illegally passing my details to a third party). Rather than admit their mistake, LDC continued to send bailiffs.
Following Norman Bakers intervention, LDC finally admitted that they were wrong. Furthermore, my complaint with the Office of the Information Commissioner was upheld and LDC were sanctioned for a severe breach of the Data Protection Act. I have still yet to receive any form of sincere apology from the managers that broke the law at LDC. I am afraid I can say no more due to a forthcoming legal action against LDC.

Just a final point though - I have nothing to do with the people that choose to live alternative lifestyles in the North Street/Phoenix Quarter. In fact, as a geologist, I am actually pro-fracking and a climate change sceptic too. Kyoto will do nothing for the world in the long term. Hence "Eco Worrier" with the emphasis on the "O". This, of course, has nothing to do with my original posting but that hasn't stopped some plebs from sounding off. Goodbye all.

I suspect Eco Worrier also knows that there is a lot of sound evidence that global temperatures have been far warmer at times in the past than they are now, and far warmer than they are forecast to become due to the so called "man-made global warming" scare stories ....

The evidence that mankind and fossil fuel use are the sole, or main, cause of global warming is not as cut and dried as many might like to think, equally it would probably be wrong to assume its all okay and that we can burn as much fossil fuel and consume as much natural resource as we like, with never a care.
This planet is finite, and unless, or until, mankind finds a way to relocate, or to bring in resources from elsewhere in the galaxy, then we would do well to remember that everything we consume may be gone for good, and that any waste we produce may be here for a while, and so resources may run out, and/or we may find we end up with a planet covered in unusable waste - neither of which make for good prospects for the long-term habitability of the planet for mankind (and numerous other species).
But, unless and until mankind can find a way to reduce consumption of fossil fuels, and live in a more sustainable fashion, then fracking (and nuclear power generation) may eb an evil we have to live with, unles sof course we are all happy to live ina very different, and less comfortable manner than we do today.
I am sure many of the vociferous "anti frackers" and "greens" are all still happy to drive cars they replace every few years, to replace their clothes before they are worn out (for fear of being "off trend"), to replace their mobile phones, music players, laptops and tablet PCs ever time a trendy new version appears, and to take holidays abroad - after all, its "everyone else" who needlessly consume this planets resources, not them isn't it...
Eco Worrier sounds like he (or she) has the ability to understand the pro's and con's of his/her decisions, unlike the many people who simply decide to follow the latest trend or fashion, whether that be 'Ban the Bomb', 'Save the Whale', 'No Fracking or whatever the media suggest is the right or wrong way for the masses to think.
Good on you Eco Worrier, you are not alone there are many of us who share your views, and your concerns!
Anyway, back the threads topic - LDC and its poor practices...
