I'm 14 and really just want too earn money. I have loads of spare time and family/friends are never really up for giving away money. I've been told ' paper rounds and babysitting ' but all the paper rounds are taken and no one really wants a complete stranger babysitting their child. Thanks

I know things were different when I was 14 but some principles are the same. Just go round the independent shops/buisnesses ( There were loads more back then ) Lewes has quite a few, and ask face to face - even a couple of hours @ one or two will help. Be prepared to do any work - within reason, remember Health + Safety is for your protection ( I was climbing ladders, painting with my dad. And pumping petrol @ 14) so some things change for the better. Good Luck.

When I was your age I did the washing up/prep in a local pub kitchen. Earnt more money then any of my friends at the time and had a lot of fun doing so. Would recommend enquiring around the local independent pubs.

Sadly for the OP, times have changed since the halcyon days of yore and now, thanks to child protection rules there are strict regulations around the hours anyone under 16 can work and the type of work they can do. Also a lot of public liability and employers liability insurance policies won't cover under 16's at work.

The upshot is, it's almost certainly more hassle for a company to employ a 14 or 15 year old than the savings in minimum wage you benefit from so most companies just don't employ anyone under the age of 16 any more.
Paper rounds are still a thing and you mighty get people to pay you to clean their car or something but you'll struggle to find employment with a business I'm afraid.

My daughter, now aged 36 (as opposed to 64?) was also pumping petrol at 14, so some things have been slow to change.

I think self employed is the way to go. I know teenagers that earn online from legitimate enterprises (it services etc) but also odd jobs that older people find difficult. I can't stress enough how important integrity is in establishing reputation. Expect to spend some hours proving your reliability. It helps if you have an engaging personality....!
Be useful and solve problems. ...that's basically what earns money.
Make sure you save and invest some of it!

Tidying gardens, sweeping, weeding paths/walls, things you may have done at home. Not really gardening, but you'll learn a lot about weeds/plants.
