Is this the push for no deal?

Go back demanding changes to something that the EU won't change. Blame the EU for intransigence. Crash out and blame the EU.

The key thing for our MPs and the PM is not the public, the economy, will of the people or anything so noble. It's their own jobs.

The bizarre approach of MPs rallying behind something already known as unchangeable with detailed reasons as to why is a sham show of strength.

Did anyone ever think the eu would EVER give us a good deal ? That's why the majority wanted to leave !! This way no current politician can accept blame, except the brave ones would have started 2 and a half years ago preparing for it. So there's the blame.

I steal the following from Gary Bainbridge, but it seems to analogise Brexit nicely;
LEAVER: I want an omelette.
REMAINER: Right. It’s just we haven’t got any eggs.
LEAVER: Yes, we have. There they are. [HE POINTS AT A CAKE]
REMAINER: They’re in the cake.
LEAVER: Yes, get them out of the cake, please.
REMAINER: But we voted in 1974 to put them into a cake.
LEAVER: Yes, but that cake has got icing on it. Nobody said there was going to be icing on it.
REMAINER: Icing is good.
LEAVER: And there are raisins in it. I don’t like raisins. Nobody mentioned raisins. I demand another vote.
DAVID CAMERON ENTERS.
DAVID CAMERON: OK.
DAVID CAMERON SCARPERS.
LEAVER: Right, where’s my omelette?
REMAINER: I told you, the eggs are in the cake.
LEAVER: Well, get them out.
EU: It’s our cake.
JEREMY CORBYN: Yes, get them out now.
REMAINER: I have absolutely no idea how to get them out. Don’t you know how to get them out?
LEAVER: Yes! You just get them out and then you make an omelette.
REMAINER: But how?! Didn’t you give this any thought?
LEAVER: Saboteur! You’re talking eggs down. We could make omelettes before the eggs went into the cake, so there’s no reason why we can’t make them now.
THERESA MAY: It’s OK, I can do it.
REMAINER: How?
THERESA MAY: There was a vote to remove the eggs from the cake, and so the eggs will be removed from the cake.
REMAINER: Yeah, but…
LEAVER: Hang on, if we take the eggs out of the cake, does that mean we don’t have any cake? I didn’t say I didn’t want the cake, just the bits I don’t like.
EU: It’s our cake.
REMAINER: But you can’t take the eggs out of the cake and then still have a cake.
LEAVER: You can. I saw the latest Bake Off and you can definitely make cakes without eggs in them. It’s just that they’re horrible.
REMAINER: Fine. Take the eggs out. See what happens.
LEAVER: It’s not my responsibility to take the eggs out. Get on with it.
REMAINER: Why should I have to come up with some long-winded incredibly difficult chemical process to extract eggs that have bonded at the molecular level to the cake, while somehow still having the cake?
LEAVER: You lost, get over it.
THERESA MAY: By the way, I’ve started the clock on this.
REMAINER: So I assume you have a plan?
THERESA MAY: Actually, back in a bit. Just having another election.
REMAINER: Jeremy, are you going to sort this out?
JEREMY CORBYN: Yes. No. Maybe.
EU: It’s our cake.
LEAVER: Where’s my omelette? I voted for an omelette.
REMAINER: This is ridiculous. This is never going to work. We should have another vote, or at least stop what we’re doing until we know how to get the eggs out of the cake while keeping the bits of the cake that we all like.
LEAVER/MAY/CORBYN: WE HAD A VOTE. STOP SABOTAGING THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE. EGGSIT MEANS EGGSIT.
REMAINER: Fine, I’m moving to France. The cakes are nicer there.
LEAVER: You can’t. We’ve taken your freedom of movement.

Bit confused Bert, you say leavers voted leave because they didn't think the EU would give us a good deal when we left? I thought it was the opposite, that we would hold all the cards and make the easiest deal ever and it would be sunlit uplands all the way!

Also, the current deal on offer meets all our arbitrary red lines that none of us voted for. So we sort of did get exactly the deal we asked for from the EU. Then TM pulled her own deal yesterday and said we must go back and get a different deal. Totally surreal.

Bert the UK economy generates about 2,100 Billion a year so that one-off divorce bill payment of 39 Billion payment represents about 1.85% of the economy. I think one thing that Leavers and Remainers now have some consensus on is that there will be some economic pain when we leave the EU with Leavers believing it is a cost worth paying in the long run. No economic forecasters disagree with the assertion that the UK economy will shrink on leaving the EU and if there is no Withdrawal Agreement (and therefore no divorce bill) it could reduce GDP by between 4% in best case and 15% worse case with a consensus figure of about 8%. These figures represent about £84 billion, £315 billion and £168 billion respectively. At present the UK's net contribution to the EU is £9 billion per year. Whilst one may argue forecasts are conjecture it would be prudent not to plan for the future and forecasting is the best way of doing this. So if you want to proffer a viewpoint with figures it is useful to have context otherwise you just become like any other politician who is trying to pull the wool over the electorates eyes with carefully selected statistics. There are Lies, dammed Lies and Statistics.

@TP

If you break a contract in the middle you tend to have to pay the rest of the contract up. Like if you upgrade a phone early you pay the remaining months. If we dovetailed our exit to match the budget cycle of the EU (2020/21 I think) then the divorce bill would be close to zero (like when you upgrade your phone right at the end of your contract).

Before handing over a penny more, let's have sight of an audited set of accounts from Brussels.

B2, more evidence that the charade of exit is a stitch up -- ask for the impossible and you won't get it. With Pro E U May in charge, what can you expect? Good point Grumble, we're never going to see the accounts audited, there's something about them that just doesn't add up.
