Staggering home from a good night out with some friends last night, i opted for some Indian cuisine to mop the alcohol up rather than the usual crap from the Charky.
As i walked past the Dilraj, i noticed that the place was completely empty apart from half a dozen waiters mooching around. Even my double vision couldn't spot a customer !!!
As i arrived at my eatery of choice....SM, i had to virtually queue to get in for my chicken dhansak....the place was heaving with people either waiting for a table or sitting down.
So could this be spelling the end for the Dilraj ?....i said that they really needed to up their game when SM opened and i haven't seen any sign of this.
And just to rub it in, my Dhansak was probably the nicest ive ever had from anywhere....it blew my b***s off though !!! ;o)

How can it be SOOO muchbetter than the Dilly? surely a curry is a cury - with indivdual Chef variations - perhaps they crap atsomething other than Dhansak - is it just what choice yu make - or Shanaz even- not been to Chaula's but I understand that is up there as well - the Lewes Spice has a slightly different menu - is it not an option to settle for slightly less exiting curry - but a more quiet personal atmosphere?
SM for Dhansak?
Shanaz for cheesy peas and galic chilli Naan and Rezala
Lewes Spice for Pistachio based dishes
research required...
will be starting tonight with my good friend(s(?))

I was merely commenting on the lack of people in the Dilraj compared to its neighbour....people often vote with their feet so to speak so the SM is obviously doing something that the Dilraj isn't.
Again, not tried 'a restaurant' but i do enjoy the shanaz

Oh dear oh dear, what happenings to my Dilraj friends? I tells them best things to do is have a few Cobra's, whiten up faces and go to Spice Merchants. Complain loud and scares customers off. Thats as long as they don't like it too much!

We stopped going to the Dilraj a couple of years ago as we thought the food really was n't as nice as it used to be. Quite bland and greasy.

Dilraj is my favourite restaurant in Lewes. But why doesn't it have its menus on the takeaway menus page It always looks empty but when you go in, there are a few people there. Good value, and the waiters are really nice blokes.

Ooh, I love curry. I think SM is my favourite place. Chaula's is fantastic, but the food can be a little overspiced sometimes. I tend to ask for mine milded down a little.
I'll try the Dilraj soon, if it's as nice as people say it is. But why doesn't it have its menus on the takeaway menus page
