Dont sign it. If you do, you wil be inundated with junk mail everyday about anything and everything. Pain in neck. The bonfires can look after themselves. They won't let anything happen to the 5th. Scaremongering, that's what 38dregrees all about.

I don't support people who make it their business to bait the police, injure people and animals and who truly believe they are above the law. Ban this silliness before more killing of innocents. I know the bonfire idiots will take this opportunity to spout their usual RUBBISH but take a good look at yourselves. Knob cheddar everyone of you. Grow up!!!!!!

@animals: Wind your neck in and take a reality check. Bonfire people do NOT bait the police, quite the opposite in fact. They do NOT injure people, they are IN FACT far more likely themselves to be injured by an idiot in the crowd. They DO NOT injure animals you cretin, most probably have animals themselves. They DO NOT think they are above the lawbut they do not think the law should be contemptuous of them. If anyone needs to grow up it is you, but I suspect that ship has long since sailed.

Thanks for your concern Animals. Though I can confirm no one has died in the last 100 years due to a direct bonfire incident.
The only death I can think of recently – was from a student practicing train surfing under a low bridge on the way back from Lewes. Not sure if this could actually be attributed to bonfire or whether this individual would have done it regardless of the event attended. I would be interested to see what facts you have to base that on.
Regarding your other points.
No member of a bonfire society is above the law or participates in ‘police baiting’. Every society works closely with the authorise.
Animal and political activists are more likely to bait police and kill/destroy people’s lives (protests and bombings) – that is a fact.
And please – “Knob Cheddar”! An argument is quickly lost when you have to resort to such insults.
I’m happy to debate the subject – as long as it’s based on facts and mutual respect for each other’s hygiene.

Yeah ban bonfire, it's a hazard to animals, children, epileptics, partially sighted, teenagers who can't handle drink, blacks, white, lesbians, gays, disabled, firefighters, Syrian dictators, and Guy Fawkes

Well. Now then I'm in quandary.
You see.. I love Bonfire and broadly support this petition.
But I hate junk mail. A lot. I already have a much bigger p*nis and $20 million in a bank account from a Nigerian General's widow.
But I love a nice knob of cheddar.
What can I possibly do?

What's so dangerous about the Bacup coconutters?

Nothing dangerous at all. They have been dancing one day of the year in the streets of Bacup since around 1855. Lancashire County Council photographed bystanders standing on the highway to watch the dancing and suddenly the Bacup coconutters get told they must pay up 1000 pounds to close the roads for the event (which draws a crowd of around 800 people each year and so brings financial benefits to the area already) If they do not pay up they will be banned from dancing. Pure greed and idiocy. Lancashire County council should be thanking them for maintaining such an interesting local tradition, not trying to fleece them.
