We are moving to Lewes soon and will be looking for a doctor and dentist. Any recommendations, especially for doctors who have knowledge and understanding of alternative therapies and holistic work?

I suggest you try elsewhere, there are too many outsiders moving to Lewes and trying to change things. I bet after a few weeks here you will be complaining about the bonfire tradition. Anyway good luck when you do move, you will find us very hospitable.

There were two excellent lectures, given to packed houses at Lewes Skeptics In the Pub lately, on the issue of quack therapies which the original poster in this thread mentioned.

Evidence-based medicine (using double-blind trials, the only type that have any hope of providing reliable statistics) was praised. Holistic approaches, including properly-tested medicine, were commended for considering all ways of raising quality-of-life for patients. But so-called "alternative therapies" (which, by the judgement of evidence-based trial, are no therapy at all) were shown to do nothing more than treat a patient's impression of his or her own illness, and certainly not treat the disease itself or its symptoms.

Yes, there are practitioners of "alternative" medicine in Lewes, and not one of them should be allowed to make a single claim without backing it up. Anything else is fraud and that's a matter for the police. Certainly, legislation such as the Cancer Act 1939 exists to stop idiotic claims for some kinds of quackery being made.
