Everyone who has their bank details registered with Greentopia should beware. I paid for a years service in May, but now they have taken another £78 from my bank account via a new direct debit they have set up. This was two weeks ago and they have promised many times to return the money they have stolen from me - but it hasn't happened. They also haven't collected the garden waste!!

I heard someone else had this. And someone else who cancelled their direct debit and greentopia put in a request (I assume to the bank) to re set it up

Don’t think Greentopia will be seen again.
They used to drop off everyday at KPS Isfield but haven’t been seen for a month...bills unpaid!
Bought by a company up North and it’s all a bit of a mystery as to what’s happened. But I don’t think we should be awaiting for collection anytime soon!

How are they getting away with all this? Not making collections is one thing, but stealing from people's bank accounts is something else.

I told them at the end of August that I did not require their services any more & cancelled my direct debit. In early October I find they have reinstated the direct debit & stolen £78. I complained to my bank stating that I had not given my permission & the bank refunded the money.

WARNING: Don't call their number from a mobile. It will cost you 50p/min to wait in a queue and not get answered anyway.

You need to go to your bank, it's their error they should not have paid a cancelled DD (as long as it was cancelled in time), if you're unsure read the DD guarantee.
Some good advice from Which:
"Under the Direct Debit Guarantee all banks and building societies must refund any disputed amounts without question, pending investigation"
I did mine through Lewes District Council, it's been very reliable, they've collected every two weeks, not being smug but you do have an option as to which service you use.

I have just canceled my direct debit. Not due again until January. I will keep an eye to see if it gets set up again and send an email in December to say I have cancelled and they are not to request to set it up

My contract ended at end of Sept. Like every one else I have telephoned ( at great expense) left emails etc. and no response. Have cancelled my direct debit at the bank so hopefully bank will be alert if they try to get money, but of course Greentopia have the original DD form which no doubt can be fudged. I want to get rid of the bin complete with its last lot of contents as it is cluttering up my garden

Your bank account has a record of you hitting "cancel" to the direct debit, if it's setup again just notify the bank and mention the "dd guarantee", you will get the funds back within 24 hours.
Also insist that the bank provide a full explanation of why the "unauthorised debit" happened (be clear that it was unauthorised).
