The grass verges have been cut and as the grass had been left to grow so long, we now have piles of cut grass all over the verges, in the gutters and all over pavements. Why do they not collect the grass when it's cut. Malling looks horrid now, the verges are now just covered in brown soggy grass cuttings and no doubt the grass will die underneath due to lack of light.
Is it Lewes District Council or ESCC I should complain to?

Apparently there are two companies that cut the grass up there.
One company for one side of old malling way and another for the other.
The guys that do the housing side are absolute rubbish, they seem to cut the verges there a great deal less than the other compay do and it looks absolutely appauling!
You are right indeed Mrs Garden, the grass will die under the weight of all of those cuttings, but should come back through next spring with any luck. In the mean time we will have to no doubt look at the brown, sodden silage that remains.
Its an absolute disgrace.
Why can't one company (ther better one obviously) look after the estate?
Oh, and Geoff, please go and entertain yourself and your obvious boredom elsewhere.

I imagine that the grass cutting service went out to tender and the cheapest tender won the contract, in order to save the council money. Quality may have been low on the criteria.
Couldn't Malling advertise it as free compost-to-be for allotment users if they come and collect it?

Why don't you community minded souls with nothing better to do than moan cut the verges yourself if you'r so concerned? Big society and all that?! Tories wont pay so you have to do it!

I think it's LDC you need to complain to. I think they are responsible for the right hand side of the road, looking at it as if you'd just driven onto the estate, and that ESCC are responsible for the left hand side. This is why there are two companies involved.
Bureaucracy, don't you just love it.

I cut mine as well, so when the contractors turn up they always leave my areas alone, which means it looks nice and tidy all the time.

I cut mine and have for years, the contractors drag all the cuttings over my verge, leaving a mess everywhere. I have complained before and was told that they are contracted to cut verges 5 times a year only. And that is a very small percentage of our council tax that pays for this service.

They certainly do not cut the verges 5 times a year, so far it has been twice here. Also, we suspect the council sacked the person (due to the austerity cuts) who is supposed to supervise and check that the Contractors do their job properly. LDC is absolutely useless !!

It's Wealden Council that hacks the verges, they have the contract with ESCC. LDC cut the grass areas other than the verges. It is a joke.

What you need is seed bombs and cover the whole area in a riot of beautiful wild flowers - the council have to mow it less (twice a year) and you end up with a glorious riot of flowers and help the bees and insects too 9and your gardens)! better still persuade the council that wild flower verges are the way to go and Lewes could look stunning from April to September :-)
