As kids we used to go back home from Malling to Landport via a short cut along the river bank under the railway bridge and over the fence into the rec, until we saw the ghostly dark soldier. Scared us totally. Believing we were mistaken we ventured that way again a few weeks later only to encounter the figure again. We used the long way home from then on.
