Thanks for your swift and frank response school hill, having little experience of your practice I appreciate the honesty, and for punningly reminding me of the invasive procedure.
I had suspected as much and would happily switch practice for an appointment, I wonder if anyone thinks it would be a good idea to? Or should I save for a private appointment, indeed, is that even an option?
Thanks for your time.

If you're really worried, go private. But you can end up spending two hundred quid for a ten-minute session that doesn't feel like value for money. If you do decide to wait for an NHS appointment, in the short term, you can get a PSA test on Amazon to rule out nasty things and they also sell a supplement called Prostacare, which seems to help. Look at the reviews first.

It's disappointing. I needed to discuss gynae issues, so phoned for an appointment, only to be told the Dr would phone me back. So I am sitting in my office on tender hooks waiting for the call. He calls, I cannot leave the office so I have to explain my rather intimate problems within earshot of work colleagues. I am then just given an appointment of their choice of day/time. No good at all.

Until they changed the way you book an appointment it was great, but the new system stinks

Totally agree with last parts only really works for those who don't work and can afford to just sit at home and wait for the call. It appears that you can no longer make an appointment in advance on line either you have to ring on the day. I also don't want to discuss my medical problems with a receptionist. They need to get their act together but I imagine that won't happen until someone dies as result of a doctor deciding a phone consult was adequate.

It's got reAlly bad recently. I've been going there for over forty years. I made an official complaint when a receptionist told me that I was being unreasonable not to agree to have a phone call instead of an appointment. I work in a busy office too and it's very difficult to take private phone calls, plus most us know when we need to see a doctor. Recently I was bounced between the surgery and hospital as to who would refer me for an X-ray. I asked them if this was because they were trying to save money. They got quite huffy about my suggestion, but it feels like they placing a barrier to access to healthcare. It's bad enough having to phone on at 8.30am on the dot to be in a queue of 16 people when this is the time that I travel to work...I agree, they need to get their act together, but better than what may be coming I suspect when all the go surgeries in town are centralised in the Phoenix community centre...?

Thank you for the legit responses, props to Earl, useful. Last parts and Cleo, i feel you, the indignity.
I chose this surgery, aware of the appointment system employed, and gather it is the same system for each surgery? It is the game, as it were, not the player that i am frustrated by.
As for the merging surgeries- this is years off, right?

It is definitely not the same surgery anymore.Clearly designed to stop people going to the doctor.

I really don't see what everyone's issue is with School Hill. I've been a patient there for a good 30 years now and I can't fault the service. I'm diabetic so I see doctors a lot more than most people and Dr Lamb looked after me amazingly well for years, now Dr Annis does the same. On the odd occasion recently I've potentially needed to see a doctor I've rung up in the morning, had a call back an hour or so later and had a prescription delivered to Bakers and picked it up at lunchtime.
Yes, it is a little frustrating that you have to call at 8:30 and sit in the queue but that's because so many people feel the need to see a doctor, often with stuff a pharmacist is entirely capable of handling.

Worked at home yesterday as had booked phone call from GP at School Hill to discuss recent blood tests. Was told exact time she would call ('or sometime later'). She called 1/2 an hour early (while I was outside dealing with a delivery), left a message saying she'd call back - and didn't. I'm wondering if it's because they all work part-time - poor continuity of care?

'I've said this before' you appear to have missed the point. All of what you said indicates that you don't work. I can't wait in for a doctor to call me when I need to go to work. Not saying that the care from the doctors isn't good, just can't actually get to see one. Not everything is an emergency therefore I need an appointment when it suits me.
