@Sid , I couldn't agree more , our armed forces cost us so much money so let's utilise them to deal with a serious problem , that of defending our borders . Is there a less significant role that they could do ?

@ Sid and Convenient. It is clear that neither of you have any idea of what you are proposing, well meaning though it might be.
France is a foreign country and although we may think they are getting it all wrong putting British troops on foreign soil without agreement, can, under international law be considered an act of war and the French would NEVER NEVER agree.
Question, could they have another role, yes, they could be used to boost our border defences in England.Politicos are very very loth to use soldiers in this manner it is an admission of failure of the established system.
The problem however is in France, and they have lost control,if indeed they ever had it in the first place.

@trooper . yes I agree , my post was really more to do with using our army to protect our borders and yes I see that would be better done here rather than in France .

The last time the British army went to France without the Americans it had to run back across the Channel very quickly. Remember Dunkirk?

@ HERMANN. I have to congratulate you on your grasp of history, which to say the very least is abysmal, I would suggest you try to read some history before you make any more ridiculous and ignorant comments.

Calais was always English until it was illegally seized by the French in 1558. It's as British as Gibraltar, just under illegal occupation.

Correct Ben so what you would do is protect your own garden

Our fellow continental nations are supposed to be all in it together when it comes to the defence of the European Union.
Our nearest friendly nation to the south should remember how we saved them from teutonic tyranny twice in the last century; and abandon Ben's mole analogy.
