I will quite happily admit I am not a football fan but I cannot understand the ridiculous and overly used description of the players as heroes. No they are not heroes and unless one of them does something to save a life or limb they never will be.
Heroes are mostly found in the ranks of the Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade, Armed Services and divers rescuing trapped children not bloody football players. End of.

OED: "a person, typically a man, who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities."
Arguably winning the World Cup would be an 'outstanding achievement' given the unlikelihood of it pre-tournament, and I assume it would be a feat 'admired' by many, football fans and non-football fans alike. What's the problem?

I'd be very surprised if the members of Murdoch's debatably more 'thoughtful' rag were above referring to England players as heroes. #hyperbole

Heroes to me are people like our brave prime minister Mrs May who has been doing everything she can to reverse the result of the absurd referendum on EU membership and seems to have succeeded. What hard working families like mine need is access to reasonably priced labour from eastern Europe to help us at home and in my husband's hospitality business. I'm sorry, but if Brexiters aren't willing to work for a decent wage then we'll find someone who will.
