Food bins

My food bin has disappeared for the third time this year - the small, roughly shoebox-sized ones. It had the house number painted on it. Surely not useful to another resident. Each time I go to the council. They arrange for a new one and then it disappears. This one was gone within half an hour of the collection. Is this a common phenomenon?

As soon as we had one of these bins I thought "That's a useful little box to carry my tools/bits around in."
Seriously, though, I can see the potential for theft; and it is unfair to expect the Council to keep replacing it. The only solution is probably to put it out just before collection, and recover it just after. If you cannot be around to do this, then perhaps don't use it and put the scraps in the general bin in a bag. A bit less waste should not alter the EU quotas too much!

I robbed it.
I use them to keep my scab mags in.

In my experience the binmen shove all food bin contents into the back of their dust carts anyway.

Mark, well done for recycling food waste - a pain about the box being stolen, but as Sussex Jim says, they are a very handy little container and I've seen them around being used for a range of things. You may just have to keep it indoors - or use a bike-lock on it.
