I have been off work since last Monday - temperature, headache cough and general lethargy. Dr said it was probably flu. Has anybody else had/got this and if so how long does it last? I don't seem to be getting any better.

it's the Lewes flu, everyone has had it, I had 3 days off and it went on for 4 weeks. It isn't real flu but it's pretty close.

Me too: really bad headache, aching muscles, chesty cough but no loss of appetite.
I don't think there's any point in seeing a doctor for a virus - there's nothing they can do unless you get a chest or throat infection that needs antibiotics.

Its just a really nasty cold - you'll be over the worst in a week (but the cough is annoying an goes on forever)!

What a load of wimps. I have had the same for the last week, runny nose, lethargic, sore throat etc. I find that hard work and fresh air makes you feel so much better so get out of bed and stop feeling sorry for yourself. The main thing is think of others ie. hand over mouth when coughing and sneezing and wash your hands regularly.

Do feel a bit better today so hope that this is the end of it. For me colds don't usually come accompanied by a raised temperature for 10 days which is why I think it was flu and not just a cold. Teacher. I did try going to work on the Friday. It did not make me feel better at all. It made me a lot worse. I do know that the Dr cannot prescribe anything which works for Flu. I did however need a sick note for more time off work. It is also worth getting the Doc to check that it is not turning to pneumonia, if the symptoms last for more than a week. I also think that however careful you are about hand washing and mouth covering you are still likely to pass it on. So being a martyr helps no one. In the past carrying on has led to a bout of pleurisy so not taking that risk again.

Daytime TV is really a conspiracy to get people to go back to work!
