Egret flying over the Pells Pool today

Well, it excited me, anyway. The water in the Pells is already up to 18 deg C and it's beautiful. The improvement work over the winter has made a big difference; the tiles just above the water level look fresh and blue, and the Pool has a new smooth white lip which is easy on the feet. The water should get warmer this year as the leaks from the filter pipes have been stopped and there will be less need for frequent top-ups from the spring. The official opening is this Saturday. Alas, she won't be, but there will be some sort of opening ceremony featuring the new Mayor, John Stockdale and some of the Town Council. They may not be as nice to look at, but they've been very generous in helping the Pool get its repairs done and made it possible for the Pool to get National Lottery money.
There will be big celebrations on the weekend of 17-19 June for the Pool's 150th. anniversary, with evening concerts and free tickets to be won. Details of those are on the website.
