For anyone who thinks what's happening to our steel is natural, or would like to blame the EU - there was an attempt to protect steel industries by other, countries in the EU that support their thriving steelworkers, like Germany ,Italy and Holland .These countries wanted to substantially raise the tariffs on on dumped Chinese steel .Guess who voted against this rise in tariffs. Yes! Cameron and Osbourne. The UK government voted against the raising the tariffs, thus confirming once again if the was any doubt, the contempt that they have for British workers and their families.

Business secretary Sajid Javid rejected calls for higher tariffs on Chinese steel today, less than one week after signing a letter with his counterparts from France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Belgium and Luxembourg demanding that the European Commission "use every means available and take strong action" in response to "unfair trade practices".
Javid told MPs on the Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) Select Committee that the UK government opposes efforts by some EU countries to lift the so-called lesser duty rule, which currently prevents the European Commission from imposing higher tariffs on China. February 10 .2016

Andrew Evans Pritchard of the Telegraph not an anti Tory paper by any means, says that the rest of the EU are very angry and see George Osbourne as a fifth columnist ,who is only acting to further Chinese interests in the EU.the Tories would love us all to be slaves like the majority of the Chinese workers.God I despise them.

So, Our Steel Industry, it's the Tory government's fault that the steel industry is on the point of collapse. But at the same time you want us to take their advice to stay in the EU? There's an expression for this - cognitive dissonance I think it is.

All of the Brexit models we’ve seen depend on signing dozens of extreme free trade agreements like TTIP and outcompeting the EU through lower regulations. As such it’s underhand to suggest that if we leave the EU we get rid of TTIP. We will get something at least as bad and probably even worse.
“TTIP symbolises everything that’s wrong in Europe: the power of big business over democratic processes. But the movement to stop TTIP is enormous and shows that only be joining with campaigners from across Europe can we hope to restrict the power of big business.
“The power of big business is the biggest threat to our democracy today. But British governments have been in the driving seat for pushing corporate power in Europe, including supporting the most extreme version of TTIP, and they would continue to do so in a Britain outside the EU. In fact the only vision of a ‘Britain after exit’ that we’ve seen is of a big business paradise, a human rights free zone undercutting the standards that exist in the rest of Europe.”

The EU has generally been at the forefront of moves to reduce world tarrifs which is one of the good things about it. As many of its members are far less reliant on Trade than us , there is bound to be a difference of emphasis .
That’s all fair enough but I frankly don`t follow the logic of most of these comments , are you suggesting as trade war with China or increase UK prices to protect one small employer ? Perhaps I have to wrong perhaps you would like to send taxes or duties to the aid of anyone losing their job?
As I said Tata Steel is (losing £1 million a day )employs 15,000 people, out of a total of 31.42 million in work .10,000 people lose or quit their jobs every day and every single day
Why are these jobs so much more important than anyone else’s and by what l;ogic is Nationla Protecionism the answer to anyone`s problems

Torries inaction as always, hurts the worker.
But I do have news for your leader Dave Camoron, we can't all sell insurance policies or be bankers can we, because someone has to do the work that creates the wealth.
Pitchfork time is coming..

Financial Services are our biggest export although if you take creative and media together it may not be, primary industries is quite obviously not the future for this country. If you wish to hand over your money to steel workers be my guest.
What annoys me about this paleozoic lefty posturing is that its as if the people who worked for Woolworths don`t count ,the people who worked in RSA`s offices( now shut) don`t count the people who lost jobs in banking , natch they don`t count ...
Graphic designers , document handlers , system managers all gone in the IT revolution of the past ten years , they don`t count.
Why is it the left fetishise heavy industry ? I suspect it is because they wish the world still looked like one where their rubbish makes sense.

That's the line you've been given to take, is it Paul? You, or your clone, said the same in the Guardian. The thing is, it is 10,000 a day in one town. How smug you are about the destruction of a town's life in your I'm-okay world. You know these people will end up on the dole and after a few months will suddenly be denounced as 'scroungers' and forced to go through the hoops of applying for jobs that don't exist.

David Cameron was accused of betraying steel workers yesterday after Britain blocked an attempt to impose tougher sanctions to stop the Chinese dumping cut-price imports.
The European Commission wanted to increase the tariffs on Chinese imports to help the struggling steel industry.
But the UK government was the “ringleader” in stopping Brussels from increasing the tariffs to the same rate as the United States.
As as result the EU has only increased the import duty by just 9% on Chinese goods while the States has slapped tariffs of 66%.
Business Secretary Sajid Javid admitted he had blocked the EU for taking tougher action - even though it would have helped UK steel firms.
More than 6,000 steel jobs have gone in the last six months with firms blaming cheap Chinese imports as the main reason.

The usual pn gibberish. If it's a left/right issue then why are the Americans taking such drastic measures to ensure that their steel communities weather the storm? Why are the Germans subsidising their industry? Do you imagine that it's only you and Javid that understand the situation?

And it's daft to compare steel working with graphic design. Steel work needs to done in a steel town. When a graphic designer loses his job he goes out and looks for a different one.
