That will not stop this problem. Because you pay some people may think they have a right to foul the street. By the way I am a responsible dog owner so I find this particularly irritable. I even pick up other dogs waste.

This problem is never going to go away unless every dog is registered by law and their DNA taken and recorded. This way if the owners do not pick up their dog poo a sample can be taken and checked against the recorded DNA. Perhaps the traffic wardens can tag this job with theirs.

Failing to clean up after a dog is a filthy habit, it must be remembered that their excrement carries various bacteria that can cause serious health problems, death in extreme cases, to humans. About 25yrs ago a 14yr old boy playing football on Hackney Marshes, London somehow got some dog excrement into his mouth and died within a week.
Why dog owners do not just pick it up and take it home to their own bin I have never understood. A more severe punishment is called for, I personally would have them banned from owning a dog if convicted of the offence as they are clearly not responsible enough to have a pet.

Guess what- many moons ago all dogs were licensed. Some stupid (Tory) government decided to do away with it for presumably libertarian reasons in 1987.
I favour dog chipping with licensing to be done by vet/ kennel owner/ breeder when the puppy changes hands as a legal condition. I think the DNA checking is a good idea as well. Job creation ?

I know !! Why don't the traffic wardens also go on dog poo duty? They can issuse on the spot fines for owners who let their animals s**t where they shouldn't and they can carry secure plastic bags and use disposable rubber gloves to take a sample of the poo and take it away to be analised.
I remember when I was little there used to be white dog poo. Womder why that was?
You never seem to see white dog poo anymore....

I'm not only in favour of compulsory microchipping, licensing and registration of dogs, but I think owners should have to be trained and licensed before they can buy a dog. They should have to pass a basic test in how to look after their animals.
If more people knew what was involved in training and caring for their dogs and what their responsibilities as owners are, there might be fewer problems with dog attacks, cruelty and neglect.
I would happily pay a couple of hundred quid to be allowed the privilege of sharing my life with my dogs, and £50 pa for permit to keep them.

You cant legislate against stupidity or laziness! I always pick up after my dogs, I aways have spare bags and hand them out if other walkers need one - what I dont need is being told picking up is disgusting and I shouldnt own a dog - as I was at the week-end on the Railway Land

In answer to Underground, the disappearance of white dog poo is down to what dogs eat these days.
The white stuff is the calcium left behind as the water in the poo evaporates. The organic parts of the turd decompose more quickly leaving the inorganic compounds behind. Dogs these days do not eat bones like they used to.
I always bag up my dog's poo's on pavements, grass verges, parks etc, but not when walking on the Downs or fields, as the poo will decompose very quickly compared to a plastic bag in landfill that will take hundreds of years to decompose.

I have to say that is exceptionally public-spirited of you.
Well, as someone who has been trying to get dog poo cleared up on the Railway Land and looking at it on Landport Bottom, I will be "happy" (if that's the correct word ) to come and help with this.
If you want to contact me through my blog (link below), then we'll both know who we're looking for.
See you tomorrow 6pm at Cliffe Bridge.

We have a cows field behind our house where people walk their dogs, and despite a notice on the gate from the farmer (dog poo can cause cows to abort their foetuses) and a new shiny dog bin, people still let their dogs mess. They think if they walk really fast and ignore what the dog is doing, they won't have to pick it up. Even saw a woman from the vets do it once (her dog that is).

Gave it another five minutes, then left at 6:15pm.
