Would be interested to hear if anyone else has had problems with a secondhand motor bought from Cuilfail car sales.

But if a dealer isn't going to honour a guarantee then you may just as well buy privately and save yourself a packet
The point of useing a dealer is that you are buying 'peace of mind'
Buying a second hand car is stressful enough without having to deal with a holes

Indeed you should only find A pillars B pillars and straight bodywork. Not a holes and mono cocks

The point of using a dealer is that they have different legal obligations and the buyer has more rights that if buying from a private person.

I have not only purchased a car from these two guys but also they have sold one for me. I did have teething problems with the car I purchased but they sorted it out without any trouble. If you are worried about purchasing a car from them find out what the guarantee offers and how long is it for. And remember you only get what you pay for and don't be shy about haggling.

its always cheaper to buy private and take a mechanic with you. where do you think second hand cars come from?. you are just paying their mark up. very rarely do you get any more security or piece of mind if something big goes wrong. they will useually whelch out of the deal.and if you buy a car private and something minor goes wrong then you will have easily saved enough money to put it right.

Oakleys are already marketing it as the 'Caffyns Quater'

The "Caffyns Quarter" - what one small "lot"? Thats a very small quarter....
And, as it is the second Caffyns Quarter - assuming the old Caffyns' site on Western road was the first, does that mean Lewes still has an areas known as the "Caffyns' half" left somewhere else?

That house on the end of Thomas st. and Daveys Lane used to be a squat in the 70's - as did others nearby .

I have bought many cars from this dealer (and the one before them) and they have all been good honest motor cars. It's a shame that the site is to be sold but to have a pretty development embracing the steamer trading HQ can only be a improvement on the current situation. I do hope Cuilfail Car Sales will find new premisses and continue to serve the people of lewes good value for money motor cars. After all not all of us Lewestonians have deep enough pockets to support Cayffyns PLC!

Update on Cufail Cars - just found out that when the site eventually gets developed (we all know this can be a long process!). Cufail cars will still carry on trading locally, honouring all guarantees. It's been a part of the Lewes community for many years and wouldn't have lasted this long without helpful service and good after sales support. I've personally been a happy repeat customer and know of many more. Glad to know they will still be around.

I have dealt with John from Quilfail Cars for over 30 years, from Portslade to Lewes. I have personally bought 17 cars from John, and sent several family members and friends to him, and I can honestly say that he has never welched on an agreement, never sold me a dud car, and I have always had value for money. He has also sold some cars for me in the past, at very good rates, with no complaints. My children's first cars were also always from John, so that I could be sure they were safe. The only honest car dealer I have ever dealt with, and I was sorry to see him close.

I sold my car to this guy John for a pittance 25/09/16, he tried to make out there was some oil in the water which there wasn't as the oil leak had been fixed and cost me over £300!! then he did not give me any part of the V5C and asked me to keep the tax on for 5 days so he could drive it to Portslade and back.He made me sign a receipt of sale which HE kept. I cancelled the tax on the last day of sept and several months later i got fined from the DVLA for not taxing my vehicle for October!! I DID NOT OWN THE CAR AS I HAD SOLD IT!!! When i tried to visit him to talk about this he hid in the back and made out he was busy with a customer - who was his eastern european valet!! - who looked just as surprised as i did!
I wonder how well this guy sleeps at night, he is very very dodgy.
