I heard a rumour that the Crown has ceased trading. Any truth in this?

Website still up and I could have booked a room in September although not this week. So, not sure why people say it's closed. A post on Tripadvisor suggests Karen may have retired and that it's worse than ever.

It won't survive long after the Premier Inn opens, I think, if it still is open. I shall be watching the White Hart with interest too, although in that case I really hope someone comes along with a plan to put it back on its feet.

Agreed. Both buildings have huge potential and needless to say perfect locations. Premier Inn will be a blessing in disguise, hopefully shaking up the underperforming hotels in Lewes.

@ B&B Lady. I cannot comment on the "Crown" I have no contact with it, however I have with others looked at the "White Hart" but have come to the conclusion that the amount of money that will have to be spent on it plus the asking price is not acceptable. I do hope that a buyer appears soon.

Crown Hotel? That's a laugh
I'd sooner sleep in a bus shelter probably more hygienic
Only surprise to me is it's stayed open this long

I'm not sure if the number of rooms and the cost to get it to a reasonable standard will be worth it to the big hotel chains. The downstairs has much more potential as a bar / restaurant - Harvester or Wetherspoons type. They'd have to sort out the toilets first though!

I reckon with a quick refurb, you could develop a number of £600k bijou apartments on the site - handy for the commute to London (when the trains are running)

But they don't go destroying people's property just because they have had a good smacking.
I have been here ten years. Late at night the high street was buzing. Now after midnight your lucky to see a car.
