What ever happened to this petrol station being cheaper than the other establishments in town ?
Bit disappointed driving past today to see it was matching Tesco,
I would like to support local business (if the petrol station can be classified as one ) however I get clubcard points at tesco for spending the same amount of money.

I think it's a fantastic place, i have never come across an independent garage before and at last this gives us the chance to stick two fingers up at the Esso's and Tesco's of this world. Even if it does cost a couple of quid extra per tank at least you know the profis are are going into the local economy and not some share holder's bank account.

One independent petrol station owner was on the news the other day. He was saying that the supermarkets can sell petrol cheaper retail than he can buy it wholesale. That seems a bit of a problem to me.

i think its good but they have to keep the prices low and at least match Tesco but it would be better if they were cheaper . I don't know why the independents don't gang up and buy petrol together. I bought some potatoes the other day, delicious, apparently they have a garden where they grow stuff and sell it in the shop , but i wouldn't go there if it wasn't cheap.

The oil companies sell petrol to the retailers at a high price as they prefer to make their profit at the drilling and refining stage knowing that they have few competitors there. They ensure that there is thus very little profit that can be made in the retail side of the business where potentially there is lots of competition (it being much cheaper and easier to set up as a garage rather than as a drilling company).
Don't buy from the petrol company's own retailers. The supermarkets can afford to compete as they're not so worried about profit in their garages which can serve as a loss leader.

When the lease expired the company running went into liquidation apparently and now the landlord is having a go at running it. Remember that 1 or 2p difference is nothing in percentage terms and and it'll cost you a bit more to drive to Tesco so why not support this great local business?
