Hi,
I am researching into Clothkits and would be interested in hearing from anyone about their experiences of buying Clothkits clothes and why they liked them so much at the time. Please email me [email protected] thanks

I loved cloth kits. ...They were a completely different concept..I loved the colors and designs..The clothes were easy to make and very hard wearing. ...I'vestill got a waistcoat! The stripey tights were cool ! A friend of mine worked there too so my young kids wore tons of clothkits stuff..as she was able to buy seconds...

I worked for Clothkits in the early days, even made up samples and did some printing though was based in mail order side of it. I think they were liked as thry were different and usually quality was hard wearing, Many had sewing machines back then and rhe pinafores etc were easy to make. The Shetland wool knitwear lasted for years and I still have some of the knitting patterns designed by Janet Kennedy.

I was Shop Manager in the High Street for 6 years. The children's clothes in particular were easy to make in good, hardwearing cotton and with matching T-shirts, socks and pants ready made. Each season we looked forward to the new range of 4 colours. The brochures were great and featured members of staff and their children as models. Making our own clothes was great fun, but within 10 years it became a lot cheaper to buy off the peg from elsewhere although cotton garments were still not easy to find, as today. Today I still make my own cotton tops, I am nearly 70.
