Anyone know any progress on the new Cinema in Lewes ? Have they got planning permission ? And do the town council and Lewes cinema at the little theatre plan to continue their programmes if it does get up and running ?

Not sure how that relates to your original question. Someone may have been using your post name, but if not, the thread 'Cinema in Uckfield' may remind you.

Belladonna - you were posting previously in exactly the thread mentioned by 'popcorn' so you know what our view is and what our intentions are.

Why do you sound so cross Lewes Cinema? Scared of competition? Try showing some half decent movies when you have a moment

I think I would be a bit irritated if someone was bullying me on this website. If you don't like the films being shown, then that is fine, it is your opinion, maybe they are crap, maybe they are fine, I have no idea. But there is another cinema in town, and several nearby, and of course you could always start your own, like these people have. There is no need to go, (I don't) and we are not entitled to a cinema anyway, so why complain about what you do have. It simply makes Lewes Cinema look like they are being harassed, and you are the bully, and i suspect that is not what you want.

It was just that Belladonna had already participated in the same discussion a short time ago - so I did wonder about the motivation for the post, hence the short, brisk reply.
Just out of interest Old Cynic, what would you describe as 'half decent' movies - genuine question, not to be interpreted as 'cross'!

Lewes Cinema was ok when in the All saints centre but the Lewes Little Theatre is hot uncomfortable, claustrophobic and after one visit would never enter the place again. I "proper" cinema would be good in Lewes .

The parties behind the new cinema proposed for the Harveys Pinwell Road site are currently in discussions with SDNP planners, prior to having the planing application accepted or rejected.

One way or another Lewes will probably get a new Cinema, whether it is the community arts centre and theatre planned for the Harveys site or the one mooted by the developers of the Phoenix site, London based property developers The Santon Group. I know which I'd prefer. The first will be a proper Lewes cultural centre, the second a poorly thought-out and badly positioned sop to ensure the developers get their application for rabbit hutches past the planners so they can maximise their profits.

All Saints is currently Lewes' busy community arts centre. The seating was upgraded last year. This year we will be starting to update the lighting.

Lewes Little Theatre is.....a long established and popular Theatre...It's facilities have developed for theatre audiences, and I am not aware of anyone commenting about them at all, until they were sensibly shared with some projectionists needing a new venue.
I am pleased that you prefer All Saints, with its excellent range of arts related activities, including film projection. Thank you for telling us.
Isn't it great that we have so much to chose from to suit different people.

Zebedee,
You say The Santon Group are 'London based property developers'. Actually the company is domiciled in a tax haven (Isle of Mann).
