Hi all, I'm a student going into my third year at Sussex moving to Lewes in September, and was wondering whether anyone could tell me where the cheapest pub is to get a pint.
I'd also like to join a pool team and, living in Pelham Terrace, wonder where I might best call my local - a place I can take my housemates and friends when they visit. The Elephant and Castle is the closest and puts a bit of sport on which is nice, but any other suggestions?

Going by your moniker and if it's cheap prices you're after, you may want to try the Working Mens Club on Malling Street (just past the Esso garage). Bit of a stroll, but all the more for building up a thirst? Good luck.

Tally Ho has darts and pool teams as well as sky sports. Pint of Carlsberg/IPA is £3.10.
Think that most pubs are very similar in prices unless there's a promotion on

Come to Lewes Working Men's Club. Carling is £3 a pint as is Harveys. We have a pool table, but no pool team and are always looking for people to join the darts, Toads and Snooker team. Also a TV showing BT Sport.

Different pubs are cheaper for different drinks though outside of social clubs the Tally would be the cheapest pint at £3.10 (although we at the Elephant and Castle quite frequently have a £3 guest ale or cider on)
I think we may also have the cheapest food (£6 a meal when you buy 2 or more). The Brewers also do very good value food. I did go to the Swan last night and the food was great and worth the £9ish a meal. (sorry, I've got side tracked by food which wasn't part of your question)
If you fancied joining the pool team pop in and see me.

Which pubs still have a pool team and are there any good players like there were a few years back?

Not so many pub pool teams around now.
The Elly, St Marys and Tally Ho have teams. The Brewers, Swan and Volunteer have tables but no team as do The Working mens club.
There are some very good players in the league, but I must admit I rarely play so am not sure of who they are.

There used to be a couple of international players playing in the Lewes and District League. Really tough competition.

I'm not a diehard Labour supporter but I thought I'd level things out having spotted the antics of ToryVoice. I'm more into snooker than I am pool - does the Lewes Working Men's Club have a free table or do you have to pay for the lights?

Does anyone know, do any of the pubs in Lewes have footy teams?

How much are the lights? I consider £1 per hour reasonable, but the only billiards table in my home town has a £1 per 10 minute charge which frankly I think is ridiculous. I echo Footy as it'd be cool to join a pub footy team

Harvey's Best, Carling, Thatchers Gold, are £3.00 a pint. A game of pool is 50 pence. Other facilities are snooker, darts, table football, and Bt Sport.

The Gardeners' Arms in Cliffe High Street is one of the cheapest pubs in Lewes: and 5% off if you have a Rooks Card.

Hi Labour voice,
There is a charge for the lights of 20p for approximately 7.5 minutes. However on Mondays Nights up until September the table is free. The reason for charging is to cover the cost of Electricity, and to keep the table in good order. The snooker table will be recovered, rubbers replaced and Cushions recovered in August, and this will cost £540 approximately.

Dear Joining LWMC,
No you do not have to be a member to come in. No you do not have to be recommended to join. The rules for entry were changed earlier this year. Anyone can come in, non members must sign in, and pay a pound. If you are going to come in several times then it is best to join. The membership year starts in January and costs in total £15, including the joining fee. when you renew the following year you do not pay the £5 joining fee, this means that it will cost £10. After the committee meeting, I will be able to update you in joining the Club at this time of year. I will come back to you next week about details of joining at this time of year.

Hi LWMC
Like the new rule changes (similar now to Con Club). Can reconsider your ban on getting take-aways delivered to the club?
On 30 Jul 2014 at 2:17pm LWMC wrote:
Dear Hungry,
The Club does not ban delivery of Take Aways. The rule agreed several years ago was that it was not allowed to be consumed in the club. The reason for the Rule was agreed is that not every one likes the smell of Fish and Chips, Or Asain food. If you wished to request a rule change, I would suggest that you submitted a request to run a Foods of the world club where once a month a themed take away night could occur. Perhaps talking to a few takeaway businesses in the town, asking them if they wanted to trial new dishes and get feed back on what you think of them.
