Again the casual racism appears on this forum. Is it now acceptable? An intolerant small town with small town mentalities.

To be honest, I do feel that the more intelligent amongst us do not rise to a minority of fools trying to agitate this forum. My mother always taught me that ignoring these types is best.

Trumpton Racist - agreed! There is nothing I can't stand more than people telling us how to live.

I pop back to this forum only very occasionally now to see if things have improved and quite clearly they haven't. It's a real shame that this kind of bigotry is ultimately going to destroy what could be a really useful community forum.

No such thing as racism anymore. Just banter.

I find it difficult that this thread is highlighted as 'political'. The opening post was provocative and judgemental; but the subject matter is certainly more than about politics. It is how we behave with respect and dignity to each other. And yes there has been casual racism on this forum. It's always disquieting because the user usually has no idea of how he/she is causing
offence. Banter can no excuse if the values behind it are offensive.
Lewes is a very 'white' town and it is far more provincial than many incomers assume. Having said that the majority of Lewesians are tolerant and open
hearted. In this town the new culture to be understood, accepted and respected, has by and large been white prosperous residents. I think mostly
this has happened despite the fact that sometimes the newcomers are
insensitive to the community they are joining. The demographic change in
Lewes has been enormous over the last few years exemplified by the housing market and and the utterly altered high street. It has been difficult for people
to view these changes positively when they impinge so directly on how they and their families live.

I worry when anyone starts telling people what they can and cannot say. It identifies bigotry with basic freedoms and corrals ordinary people with a minority extremist bigots. For what it’s worth I`d like to see calm fact based efforts to improve integration and recognise problems where the exist. It needs some effort but I can`t see any need to panic.
On internet rudeness I really like the Paddy Power Advert which I suggest you watch ….. Ruby Walsh showing he is also a great actor and funny man.

I've seen occasional racist comments on here but they've been a very small minority and that's probably the same in the town. Most of the prejudice seems to be aimed at people from London and apparently that's OK.

It's very important that the Forum should express what goes on in Lewes. As we know, there are a number of moronic racists around in the town so it's only right that the creeps should be spouting their bile here.

This town is a relic of a past that has been gratefully forgotten in the rest of the world.
