I hear that the 12 year old rover parked on the D permit space for several weeks at a time had a note attached to it this morning that upset the owner. Apparently it blocks up both spaces because of its large size. The owners seem to have their own parking nearby but put it there as they rent out their spaces to others. The original note has been removed and replaced with a riposte. Where will it all end?

This is all on the Lewes present Facebook page. Most support the land rover driver. He has every right to park there. Sounds like he is moving abroad soon anyway. People get angry but taking it public often backfires....

@Heidi, the car is mine. I Iive and work on the lane for much of the year. I have a valid permit that allows me to park anywhere within zone D. There is no restriction on the length of time cars can be left in a space. My car does not block the space and there is ample room for two cars, even 2 large cars. I do not have my own parking nearby, I wish I did. The author of the note knows who I am and where I live. I would have preferred them to come and talk to me privately but they chose to go public and I am defending myself accordingly. I hope the author of the note has seen sense and realises I have no case to answer. If they see this, my invitation to knock on my door and talk to me properly still stands.Thank You.

Heidi - why not apply for a parking suspension? If he doesn't move his over-sized vehicle, he'll get a ticket. If he does move it, you can park there instead.
By the way Mike, is a vehicle parked legally if it is outside the marked white lines? Like yours is.

Hang on local99 think of the co2 impact if he starts it up. You might be responsible for the end of the world. Best leave it to gradually rust away.

@Local99, Apparently the enforcers don't ticket a vehicle unless it is 1/3 outside of the lines. I haven't researched this properly yet, but when I next see an enforcer I will ask him / her for clarity. Given that I have been parking in zone D for 3 years without getting a ticket, I suspect this is the case. Thank You.

@Tom, you make a valid point, people should be thanking me for not polluting the pretty streets of Lewes. Instead I leave it to all the other inefficient, old, dirty cars that are common all over town. I do however start it up every day, just for a few minutes. It is unlikely to rust away between now and two weeks time when it will be moved to its countryside home. Thank You.

@ Mike: I have to say that starting up a seldom used car once a day creates more pollution (and wear on the engine) than, say, taking it for a run perhaps once a week . If you are worried about keeping the battery charged, get a solar powered trickle charger to leave on the dashboard.
By the way, what MPG do you get from your Rover? In terms of a "dirty, inefficient" older car, my 50 year old car gets 37 MPG on a run of over 5 miles.

@SussexJim, I agree with you to an extent,It gets used a lot more than the original complainant suggest...... That said, with a car such as this, things even themselves out over the course of a year, when, for instance I take it away from england for 4 / 5 months of the year. I don't take a great deal of notice of MPG. I take the view that if one is concerned with MPG, then a car such as this is not the right car to own. On average, I actually do very few UK miles. The car is either in the mountains of Italy, and soon South Africa, genuinely earning its keep, or it is in Sussex, doing next to nothing....swings and roundabouts etc etc...

Trust all those who are concerned about pollution never travel by air or sea?
