Has anyone else noticed how many near empty buses pass through the town?
Just pumping diesel fumes into our shops and homes. This doesn't seem a very environmentally friendly form of transport to me.
Brighton and Hove buses where are your electric buses??

I had a ride on a trolleybus last weekend, at a transport museum. A Maidstone & District one that ran in Bexhill in the 50's. Very quiet, smooth and much more comfortable than a tacky modern bus.
But they do require a lot of unsightly overhead infrastructure. I can imagine the uproar if that was installed above Lewes streets.

Why on earth did they faff about investing in free WiFi technology on their buses when the money could have been invested into electric. Priorities!!!

Unfortunately Sussex Jim, we have to choose between unsightly countryside (wind farms, solar panels, overhead infrastructure etc etc) or a very grim future for our kids and grandkids. Not a pleasant choice but it's got to happen.

I've noticed a lot of empty buses on the "regency route" . There's one every twenty minutes both ways. This is what happens with government subsidised, privately owned public transport - a nice little earner.

Some of those buses come from Tunbridge Wells, others from Ringmer and they all have to travel down the A27 so I doubt electric vehicles would be very good on such a run.
Also, it may be 1 bus every 20 minutes to Lewes, but they don't only go to Lewes. I think it would be selfish to want to reduce buses through Lewes for people that catch the bus to/from Ringmer or Tunbridge Wells.

@Tom Pain I don't believe that B&H buses get a subsidy from the government, at least not for the 28/29. At least, that's what Maria Caulfield told me when I complained about the 5th successive year of inflation busting price rises with no improvement.
@Slarty I don't think there is a reason why the electric buses wouldn't be able to operate over the route, most have sufficient range to cover at least a couple of trips. I suspect the main reason is that city centres will have priority for emission-less vehicles in order to reduce air pollution in populated areas.

On a wider note I'd personally vote to ban all private vehicles from the centre of Lewes.
Obvious exceptions for buses and deliveries.

@inthegutter - What about the disabled? And residents of course. And people, say, staying at the hotels in the town center. Might need to make an exception for people getting takeouts or the take out shops will suffer. Would Waitrose be "town center"? And we won't worry about Southover High Street or residential areas like The Avenue that will get lots of extra vehicles either. All whilst leaving the big polluting diesel buses and lorries!
But apart from that, a smashing idea

@Basil. Thank you for realizing that I am the standard of Lewes. I take no offense. I will Americanize the UK one town at a time. I've traveled far and gotten results so far
