I do not think there is any cable in Lewes. Wish there was.

A few streets have cable but I know they finished their "quota" before installing in most of them. I'm pretty sure DeMontford Road has it as Dad was a bit miffed they didn't go down Bradford Road.

Here we go. No cable in Lewes. O2 offers the best speed AND customer care in the affordable consumer / business ADSL area. 20MB down and 2.5 up in mid Lewes. 21CN was scheduled for mid last year and it won't happen anytime soon according to BT Openreach. www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/SDLWS

Sadly our planning department have (to date) demonstrated a complete lack of insight into installing cable when they approve major new developments. I feel that installation of cable in the conservation area would be a very wise move.

Do they have to dig up the pavement for it? It would be an especially good idea if it meant an improvement to the dire state of the pavements afterwards!

Some might remember when most of Lewes had cable TV back in the 80's.
I've always wondered why they couldn't re-install the existing network with fibre optic cable.
If you look on the roads around Lewes you'll see quite a few square metal access panels marked redifussion, some people may still have boxes on their walls with a dial marked a-z, these are all part of the obsolete system.
Surely, if this system was reconected then it could be expanded much more easily and less obtrusively than installing a completely new system.

Did you know, that in 1976, Hasting was at the centre of world attention when Rediffusion introduced an experimental fibre optic link.. the world's first application of fibre optic in Cable TV? Fact is that Virgin is too lazy to upgrade the exchange. Guess it's a cost/subscriber issue. Very happy with O2. Only had problems with Virgin customer care. What's the point if you get 50MB down but deal with racist idiots? Closed my Virgin account with full and final settlement back in October and still get billed for VAT after FIVE account closures. Morons.

Easynet/Sky have "Local Loop Unbundled" the exchange too, meaning that you may be able to get free ADSL if you have/want Sky TV etc
